John R. Long

John Randell Long was peacefully released on October 4, 2016 at E.T. York Haven Hospice, Gainesville, Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Payne Pulliam-Long (Williston, Florida), Stepson, Cody A. Pulliam (Jacksonville, Florida) and Stepson, Ray Brantner (Texas) , Brother Shields Long - (wife) Lynn Long, Niece – Brianne Long and Nephew – Hunter Long (Ocoee, Florida).

He was born in Durham, NC to Mother, Nancy Marchman and Father, Merle Stuart Long (both in heaven). John’s favorite hobbies included acrobatic flying, waltzing his Matilda (Harley Davidson Superglide), Model RC Airplanes, Fishing, Playing Guitar, telling Limericks and writing poems. He retired from Motorola and Dept. of Corrections as a Senior Health Administrator. He had a Master’s Degree in Business and many honors/certificates that made him a unique individual. He will be greatly missed by his family and large circle of friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the FUMC of Williston on October 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m., He was a retired Airman of the Air Force; he will be buried with an Honorable Ceremony at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. At the request of the family in lieu of flowers, donations could be made in Honor of John Long to E.T. Haven Hospice Center or a plant/tree can be planted at his home in memory of him as well.

  1. Betty, I am so sorry for your loss, I know how much you loved John. Just remember he is in heaven and he is not hurting anymore, he was such a good and kind person. I will miss him and his always starting his phone conversations with me as hello counselor!! I love you and know that my prayers are with you. Linda

  2. I miss you my friend. You were a good man with a kind heart. I had the pleasure of working with you for 5 years at Lancaster Correctional Institution and wish we could enjoy another beer together. May the Lord be with you!
