Bessie Roberta Winn Langford
Bessie (Bess) Langford, 81 gently passed from this earth at the ET York Hospice Care Center in Gainesville, Florida on October 29, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Bessie was born in Port Orange, Florida February 9, 1935 to the late Elizabeth (“Sugar”) Smallwood Winn and William Frank Winn. Her family moved to Lake Butler, Florida when she was six years old. After graduating from Lake Butler High School she attended and graduated from St. Vincent’s Nursing School in Jacksonville, FL in 1955 and went on to obtain her BSN from the University of Florida. She was married to Neal Gerald Langford 1959-1982. They settled in Largo, Florida where they raised two children. Bessie spent many years as a wonderful stay-at-home mom while Gerald’s interest and education in geology took the family to many places across the United States. Bessie did return to nursing later on and ended up relocating to Tallahassee, Florida where she eventually retired from Westminster Oakes Nursing Home.
Bessie lived in Edgewater, Florida for several years after retirement before her last move to Jasmine Point at The Village in Gainesville, Florida in June 2015.
Bessie’s love was for her children and grandchildren. Her passion was for sewing and she made beautiful quilts. She always had a crochet or knitting project going as well. She loved to read and was very interested in history, especially WWII. She was always thinking of others and enjoyed giving gifts of appreciation.
Bessie was a devoted mom, grandma, aunt and friend and she will be so dearly missed by those who loved her.
The family is extremely appreciative of the loving care she received from Jasmine Point, Dr. Rich at Senior HealthCare, Haven Hospice and ET York Care Center.
Bessie was preceded in death by her sister Margaret Winn Crawford and brother William F. Winn Jr. She is survived by her former spouse Neal Gerald Langford, daughter Lesley K Langford Welch, son Kenyon L. Langford, grandchildren, Trevor, Megan, Gunnar (Welch), Zander L. Langford, sister Mary Jane Martin (Winn), brother John Robert Winn, and loving nieces and nephews.
For remembrance, please consider a donation in her name to The Village in Gainesville or Haven Hospice.
