Frank LaFrance

Leon LaFrance was born December 14, 1940 in Ft. Kent, Maine to Joseph David LaFrance and Roseanna (Levesque) LaFrance.  He died in Hernando, Florida on Jan 14, 2017.  His sister Rosaline and a nurse were with him as he peacefully passed away.

Leon attended Longfellow School and Ft. Kent High School.  He enlisted in the Army on February 23, 1962 and was stationed in Greenland.  He was discharged honorably after 6 years of service (3 years active duty and 3 years in the Reserves) as a Corporal.

He opened his own business in Fallsburg, New York, where he was known as “Leon the Carpet Man”. He helped many struggling young families by providing them with housing, work, other financial support and even bought them food on occasion.

He continued to work until the middle of September 2016. He decided at that time to come and enjoy the remainder of his life in the Sunshine State. He drove his RV to Alachua, Florida where he parked on his nephew’s land. He stayed there until the end of December when he decided to go visit his sister and her husband in Hernando, Florida. 

He is survived by William “Billy” Thomas, who he loved as a son and Billy’s children Billy and Jackie. His siblings, Theresa (LaFrance) Parson of Kissimmee, Florida, Floyd and Bertha (LaFrance) Bolstridge of Brewer, Maine, Joseph R. LaFrance of Plainville, Connecticut, Raynold and Rosaline (LaFrance) Pelletier of Bristol, Connecticut, Leona (LaFrance) Martin, his twin sister, of Bristol, Connecticut, and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Ir̀ené, Leonard, Jean Louis, Rosaire, Ernest and his sisters, Sr. Ida LaFrance, SCIM, and Irma (LaFrance) Gagnon.

Hospice was very helpful in Leon’s care during his last few weeks.
