John Carlton Dorman Jr., 70, of Gainesville Florida, passed away on September 26, 2017 peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side.

John is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Dorman (nee’ Schmidt); his daughter Lisa (Carl) Byrd of Roanoke, VA; his grandchildren Taylor Byrd and Sydney Byrd of Roanoke, VA; his sisters Ida Dorman Jackson of Sebring, FL and Evelyn Dorman (Jerry) Sapp of Palmdale, FL; his brother Charles (Kim) Dorman of Sebring, FL; his much adored nieces and nephews: Ginger (Trey) Whitehurst, Alison (Joey) Hatch, Crystal Jackson (Matt) Pinkoson, Amber Jackson, Michael (Bekka) Dorman, Christa Dorman (Matt) Christian and Brannen (Jordan) Dorman. He was predeceased by his parents John Carlton Dorman Sr. and his wife Ruby Annette Dorman, his mother Myrle Marie Lohman Dorman and Brother-in-Law Andrew Jackson.

John was born in Jacksonville, FL on January 16, 1947 to John Carlton Dorman Sr., and Myrle Dorman. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. He graduated from Moore Haven High School and received his PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Florida in 1993. On March 30, 1991, he married his best friend Barbara and also gained a daughter that day in Lisa, who were both the most important part of his life.

John was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed drag racing, fishing and building motors in his garage. He always had a gleam in his eye and an infectious laugh. He was a spiritual man with a strong faith in the Lord and could sing any gospel song. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew him.
