Mary Ann Neeld Swilley
Mary was born in Inglis on December 4, 1929 just a few hundred yards from where she went home to be with Jesus and family members that have passed before her. Mary passed away on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the age of 88 years after suffering multiple strokes a week earlier. She passed away quietly and without pain in the early morning hours of Saturday in the comfort of her home in Inglis surrounded by her loving family. She was known as “Granny” by both family members and many others within the community.
Mary was fiercely protective of her family and friends and was always the steadfast and strong core of her family, but she was also a very compassionate and giving person. Coming to Granny’s house was always a great relaxing time for all of us. No one was ever turned away and no one ever went away hungry. For many years, holiday dinners were always held are Granny’s house and was always open to all her family and friends that may stop by. Granny and Paul helped raised several of their grandchildren when the need arose throughout their 46 years together, and she would gladly open up her house for those that needed to be there.
Granny was found of Westerns on TV and Word Puzzles. She spent most of her days enjoying those activities. She also had a great love for clocks. She collected many throughout the years and at one time, had as many as 279 in her living room alone.
She loved Hummingbirds and has many of these that return to her yard year after year. She strategically hung hummingbird feeders near her kitchen window where she could watch them all day as they came to visit. But Granny’s favorite thing to do was spending time with her dogs, Jack Russell terriers, Leo & Emily. Unfortunately, Leo recently passed away at nearly 15 years of age, leaving only Emily as her constant, loyal and unconditionally loving companion. They were inseparable.
The love she spread throughout her family was an unconditional love and she had an unwavering belief that we would all be joined together again when we cross over to heaven. She will be missed by all that have had the pleasure of knowing her and her memory will live on in each of those whose lives she had touched.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Mittie Neeld of Inglis, FL; brothers Paul Neeld, (infant) Inglis, FL; Frances Neeld, Jacksonville, FL; Carl Neeld, Inglis, FL; Wilbur Neeld, Blacksburg, SC; and brother Andrew Neeld, Homossassa, FL and most recently by her husband of 46 years, Paul Swilley, Inglis, FL.
Granny is survived by several siblings; sisters; Grace Taylor, Port Ritchie, FL; Eunice Cook, Inglis, FL; Virginia Wilhusen, Phoenix, AZ and brother, Richard Neeld, Dunnellon, FL. Children; Evelena Wilson, Welaka, FL; Sheena Price, Inglis, FL; Michael Havens, Homossassa, FL; Geraldine Kutner, Inglis, FL and Ricky Kutner, Inglis, FL., 12 Grandchildren and many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
