Robert Eric Norland

May 20, 2018

Robert E. Norland passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 20, 2018, in Gainesville, Fl. He was born in Warrensburg, Missouri on January 12, 1956, to Robert and Armande Norland. After the family moved to Black River, New York in 1959, he graduated from Carthage Central High School and completed his BS in Industrial Engineering at the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado. Rob moved to the Dallas, Texas area after college and began his career at Texas Instruments. His life in Texas spanned 37 years before moving to Gainesville 3 years ago to help his sister with the care of their aging mother.

Rob’s first love was the game of golf. He loved everything about the game - reading about the physics of it, taking lessons, practicing daily, (always in a constant cycle of improvement), playing in tournaments and a brief stint as an LPGA caddy. But, what he loved most were the people. He cherished golf trips with his friends including the Carlinville Open, the Cody Stampede, and the annual Orlando trips. He amassed quite a collection of golf clubs and quite a collection of stories. He was also a self proclaimed “chef” and, when not on the golf course, could be found in the kitchen or with his grill.

He is survived by his mother, Armande Norland, Gainesville, FL, sister and brother-in-law, Kathryn and Anthony Brennan, Gainesville, Fl, nieces Meaghan (Craig) Gulledge, Gainesville, FL, Claire Reilly, Austin, TX, Abby Brennan, Raleigh, NC, nephews Henry (Jennifer) Brennan, Denver, CO, Travis Reilly, Cheyenne, WY, great-nephew and great-niece, Owen and Bridget Gulledge, Gainesville, FL and, his constant canine companion, Rose. He is also survived by many extended relatives and friends, including Lisa Looney of Lindale, Texas.

Rob is preceded in death by his father, Robert B. Norland and sister, Debra Reilly.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at E. T. York Haven Hospice for their unending love and care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Haven Hospice in Rob’s name.

  1. Rob was a great boss and an even better person. Extraordinarily sharp and athletically gifted, he was a true man’s man that we all aspired to be. We all will miss him.
