Lonnie James Githens of Gainesville, age 61, went peacefully home after a short battle with cancer.
He is predeceased by his parents Myron and Catherine Yarbrough, and brothers Virgil "Skipper" Githens and David Yarbrough.
He is survived by his wife Christy Massonow, Brother Wayne Yarbrough of Clay County, Daughters Hope (Robert) Chessel of Green Cove Springs
and Tiffany (Tim) Githens of Orange Park, and stepson Josh Massonow of Gainesville. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Originally Lonnie called Memphis TN home. This was a city befitting his love of music. A talented drummer and bass guitarist, he played throughout school
and in his church band for a period of time. His daughter Hope fondly remembers her first time on a drum set with him at the age of 7.
He will be remembered well for his sense of humor and lighthearted pranks. Daughter Tiffany still smiles remembering
his Donald Duck impression and his homemade ice cream bribes to help ease her fears.

Such a funny person and always strived to live his life to the absolute fullest. He did leave us considerably early as he still had so many plans to travel. When he would get back from a vacation, he was already planning another one. He loved to just live, and that was taken away from him too soon. But he will always be missed a remembered for his ability to make you laugh at the most ridiculous things, and love for meeting new people and exploring new friendships. Rest easy Dad!
