Shelby Louis Deutsch, Jr. of High Springs, FL passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at his home. He was born January 15, 1956 to the late Shelby L. Deutsch, Sr. and Helen Deutsch. He is preceded in death by his sister, Debbie Curtis. Mr. Deutsch is survived by his wife Dawn Deutsch and children Tina (Tim), Nicole (Jim), and Rebecca; and grandchildren Jackson, Tory, Isabel, and Andie. He is also survived by his siblings Teresa Deutsch (Ernie) and Charlie Deutsch (Lori).
Shelby was a family man who loved fishing, shooting at the range and always enjoyed a good Sci-Fi movie. He was able to fix just about anything that existed and loved woodworking on projects for the family in his shop. If not outside on his tractor or burning a big wood pile, Shelby would be found fixing things around the house and finishing projects for Dawn. He laughed with everyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand; he would truly give you the shirt off his back even if it was his very last one. Shelby touched the hearts of everyone he met. He was a wonderful father and husband who is loved by his family and will be deeply missed.

Shelby was like a big brother to me. The closest relatives to my dads side of the family that lived by us. He taught me how to hunt, fish, took me camping and showed the value of being a great hard working person. Until we meet again Cuz! PS, keep my big sis and yours company and give your momma a hug for me in heaven.Â

Oh how I miss my big brother dearly. Growing up, Shelby and I were not very close due to the age difference. By the time I became an adult, he was out of the house. Fortunately, a few years ago, I had the opportunity to spend an entire month with him and Dawn and got to learn who he was. I learned that he had a great and giving heart, and loved his family very much. I wish that him and I had more time together, but I will forever cherish our memories made on my visit. I miss and love him so much.
Four years have passed but that doesn't make it any easier. I think of you every day and I'll always cherish the time we did get to spend together. I've taken your life lessons close to heart and I try to live my life in a way that would make you proud. You always told me you wanted Dust in the Wind by Kansas to be played in your honor. I listen to it and think of you, and I remember why you chose that song– none of us have very long to enjoy this little life, but what we do with it and the memories we leave in the hearts of those we touch is what stays after we're gone. They say you don't truly die until you've been forgotten. You'll always live on in my heart, and my children will know who you were. I hope enjoying your time in Heaven with your old dog Maggie. I'm sure she's happy to be with her Daddy again. Give her a good pet for me, will you?
