Nereida Aviles

Nereida “Nellie” Aviles went home to Jesus on April 16, 2020. She was 71 years old.
Nellie was born to Julio and Carmen Vazquez on November 27, 1948 in Arroyo, Puerto Rico. She was lovingly devoted to her family, especially to her grandchildren. She had many names. Nellie, Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Abuela, Mrs. “A” and Coach Nellie. Her passions in life were sewing, knitting, and anything to help children. She was a youth bowling coach for over 40 years and worked at the Divine Mercy House for many years. She has influenced so many “kids” for most of her life.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of over 50 years Gregorio “Greg” Aviles Jr. Her brother, George Vazquez, and sisters Edna McMonigal and Monserrate Rosado Vazquez. Her two sons, Gregorio “Greg” Aviles III and his wife Michele, and George Aviles and his wife Cristi. Her grandchildren, Joshua, Emily, Nick, Justan, Kaylee, Ethan, Madeline, and Nicholas. Her Great-grandchildren, Mason, Nash, and Ava.

Nereida Conchita Adina Aviles that was my calling to her and we laughed for hours. She and I were partners in “crime”. I loved her the minute I met her in 1971. My bestest buddy, confidant and sister. I’ll see you when I get there at the gate with a glass of wine. ❤️💔✝️ RIP my sister
Pops, George, Greg and all the Aviles family, my heart and prayers go out to you. Ms. Nellie was a wonderful soul that made this world a better place. I know she will be missed by all those that knew and loved her.

I am so sad to hear about Nellie's passing. I was a resident at the Divine Mercy House and she has taught me so much and we had a lot of laughs. Always the type to tell anyone how it is and never sugar coated. She was the tough love I needed to be the strong mother I am today. She will be very missed!
Coach Nellie was such a loving person!
She helped with my bowling with her son Greg. She’s always said while I was bowling well “I taught he how to do that!”
But then when I didn’t do so well “Greg must’ve taught you that, I would’ve shown you the right way”
Or even better one when I bowed 299 “oh that’s it? You could’ve done better, but good job” she always tried to push you to be the best you! I will always remember her as Coach Nellie!
Love you Sweetie remember me we had some really fun and good times I'm so sorry we drifted away from each other you will always be in my heart I love you Sweetie my Friend till we are together again I love you.
This is from my mom they were on a bowling league together and had a great time. One of our memorable memories when Greg n Nellie took us to the indoor amusement park in Bolingbrook Il and all the times we spent at their house on the weekends. One Christmas we went to Nellie's mom's. So many wonderful memories. She will always be missed always remembered. R.I.H angel til we meet again. Love you. ❤🙏
I am so saddened by the loss of our beloved sister in Christ. I have been praying for her daily since I learned she became sick. My heartfelt prayers go out to you Greg and your family. I offered up the Divine Mercy Chaplet for her today on Divine Mercy Sunday. She will truly be missed but God gained one holy soul to pray for us all. Love you Nellie. Rest in peace now.

I have so many memories from living next door to her my entire childhood. The one I most remember is when I received a letter from my college UNLV. I was so nervous to open it, she said let’s do it together, we opened it and I was so nervous to read it. She quickly skimmed the letter and smiled and said you did it-with her smile and open arms. I will miss our chats, but know that She is receiving the most amazing love from our Lord.
