Billy was a bright spot in anyone’s life whom he met. He never complained and almost always had a smile and a positive word to share. He was an inspiration to many people. He was tirelessly generous with his resources and time, as he was a member of the Beached Sertoma Club for many years and served on many boards of his churches. He was always a firm believer in “pay it forward.” Billy was a amazing athlete, a proud patriot and warrior, but most importantly he was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend. He will be deeply missed by his friends family, all who knew him, and the community in which he lived.
Billy requested donations be made to the local chapter of K9 for Warriors; Francis Animal Hospital’s Helping Paws.

Sending our sympathies and prayers to the entire Womble family.
Bill was my boss at the US Army Armor School, Maintenance Department, Fort Knox, Kentucky 1979-80 era. We had links through the 68th Armored Regiment In Germany. While at Fort Knox he was the post racket ball champion. We will sing to him, "The Parting Glass" in his honor and memory.

Bill was a dear friend of our family who was especially kind to our children. We have many fond memories of times together with Bill and Carol. One of our favorite memories is the year he made a surprise visit to our home dressed as Santa. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and loving wife, Carol. His memory lives on in the hearts of all us and any who knew him. Now, he is smiling and playing ball with little Billy.
Carol, I am so sorry to hear about Bill's passing. Thankful that we'll all be reunited one day, though. 🙂 Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Love you, my friend! Jane
We are 1st cousins who grew up around the corner from each other in Jacksonville. Billy and I shared many happy memories, some of which I can't share publicly. (If you knew Billy you would understand why.) One of my earliest memories is being at his house on Christmas Day. Billy had a train set, but his dad would only allow him to play with it on Christmas Day each year! We went to the same high school and I always admired his athletic ability. He was always a bit of a rogue and a ladies man – at least in his own eyes! That reputation led a friend of mine that Billy had asked on a date to ask me if she would be safe with him. I could go on and on, but I'll leave it there. Rest in peace, cousin. We'll share more good times in heaven.
Billy was ‘The Mayor” at the Waterford. I served with Billy on the Association Board and enjoyed his knowledge and humor. He always knew what was going on. He and Rascal were always about, and always friendly to all.
Billy was a very positive influence and I will miss him.
We C. C. McGehee grandchildren had the great good fortune of growing up together. We share a common time, location and loving embrace of extended family. The loss of one diminishes us all and in particular one so open hearted and generous as Billy.
When Billy married Carol Ann I was so happy for her. He was the light of her life and serving with Carol Ann in the military we were very close. When we finally got together with our husbands, they hit it off with flying colors. Bill was always ready for a good time and enjoyed your company. He will be missed by all that had any time with him.
My husband and I always enjoyed Billy’s company . He was always warm and friendly and always happy to see us ! He always thought of other people’s needs above his own . We will always remember Billy and Rascal going for their walks together! Running into Carol and Billy around town at the Dinner Shows, Times Union Broadway Plays , even the country music concerts held downtown ! I will always remember the nickname he gave my husband it was the best ! “Rambo “ Billy had a great sense of humor . We miss you and believe that you are in a better place with God .
