Gloria Ruth Eason

Gloria Ruth Eason, age 91 of Jacksonville, FL, passed away on Thursday, December 3, 2020. 

Gloria was an only child born in Bronx, New York in 1929. Her father, Louis, died when she was
only 5 and she was raised by her mother, Beatrice, who became the sole breadwinner. She
married Leroy, an electrical engineer and NYU night law student, and took a secretarial job at
Roosevelt Hospital to help support the family. They later moved from NY City to Scarsdale to raise
their two children, Peter and Jane. Gloria became the ultimate "soccer mom", deferring her own
college education until the children were older, and went on to earn her Bachelor's and Master of
Arts degree from Manhattanville College
An voracious reader, Gloria was scholarly, had a sharp wit and enjoyed dinners, walks and
playing tennis. In later years after her children had grown and established their own careers,
she enjoyed just sitting overlooking the trees, ducks and winding river from the porch of her coop.
Gloria was widowed in 2002 and she later moved to California to be near her son and daughter-inlaw, Theresa. She was a strong woman who regained her ability to walk after a hip fracture in 2016,
and then relocated one last time, with Peter and Theresa, to Jacksonville, Florida in 2018. She
resided at the Harbor Chase Assisted Care living facility in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville, where
she enjoyed visits with her family, interacting with the other residents, and the genuine caring and
warmth from the attentive staff. Another hip fracture, combined with symptoms of advanced
dementia, led to her decline and ultimate passing in the early morning hours of December 3, 2020.
Your children, Peter and Jane, their spouses, Theresa Moffatt and Jonathan Rachlin, and your
grandchildren, Max and Wenqiang, are all grateful to have had you in our lives and know that you
are now at peace. We love you.
