Carolyn won her final battle with cancer on December 4, 2020, her pain is gone and she is at peace. Carolyn was the Mother to two amazing Sons, Evan Michael Hayden and Dylan McKenzie Gring. Her Sons were the true joy in Carolyn’s life. She was so proud of them. Evan’s kind gentle spirit and sense of humor always made her laugh. She was so thankful to have him living with her the last few years. She loved Dylan’s adventurous nature and ambition. She especially loved when Dylan worked with her at North Florida Regional Medical Center. They are definitely the highlights of her life.
Carolyn grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, graduating from Palm Beach Junior College as a Registered Nurse. Her nursing career was one to be proud of. Many years spent in Leesburg, Florida, assisting in the orthopedic specialty and surgical field. Then moving to Gainesville, Florida, Carolyn was an Emergency Room nurse for the remainder of her career. She was proud of the skillful care she gave to patients and so are we. She always responded to our family texts for urgent care questions.
Carolyn attended Forest Hill High School in West Palm Beach, Florida. She excelled at athletics and science. She was a cheerleader and played volleyball and softball. During her softball scholarship years at PBJC she held the softball homerun record. She was our homerun queen. If you were lucky enough to see her in her batting stance ready to knock the ball out of the park, you knew she was something special.
Carolyn was the oldest sister and her Mom’s best friend. She is predeceased by her Father, William Edward Cowden, Step-Father, Henry (Joe) Huffstetler, and brother, Troy Huffstetler. She leaves behind her big and loving family, her Sons, Evan Michael Hayden and Dylan McKenzie Gring, her Mother, Judith Newton Huffstetler, siblings Greg (Kathy) Huffstetler, Carey (Marrianne) Huffstetler, Leann Cowden King, Donna (Mike) Slaton, Eddie (Teresa) Cowden, Sharon (Tim) Zimmerman, Marsha (Stan) Hackathorn and dozens of loving nieces and nephews.

Carolyn and I worked together at North Florida Regional Medical Center. Â We cared for many patients over the years in the emergency department together! Â Her nursing skills were top notch. Â I always looked forward to working with her. Â Carolyn was so easy going and compassionate and always had a twinkle in her eyes when she talked about her precious boys!! Â Rest In Peace dear one!! Â Nursing has lost one of the best!! Â Sending a virtual hug to your dear family.
Carolyn was a special person from a special family. Always a fighter and at the top of her game no matter what she did. I will always remember that swing of her bat as she laid one out over the fence. She will be deeply missed. My love to her family as you cherish your memories.
