April 10, 2021

Melvin E. O'Mealey, 88, of Altamonte Springs passed away on Saturday, April 10th, 2021.

My Dad was a true company man. He worked as a mechanical engineer for Texaco for 36 years. He also worked his way up to chief engineer. He married his sweetheart in 1956 and spent 60 wonderful years with her. He was a member of Saint Andrews United Methodist Church and later Ocala West Methodist Church. He loved tennis and was an all star Texas Champ for tennis doubles for three years.  Together he and his wife had three children, Mark, Jeff, And Marla. He had five grandchildren Alexis, Devon, Nicole, Trevor, and Colin. He also had two great grandchildren Grayson, and Valentina.

  1. I first went to work as a rookie in the engineering department in 1974 at the Texaco Eagle Point Refinery in Westville NJ.  Mel was the Supervising Engineer at that time.  I can remember working with Mel on several projects and it was always a pleasure to work with him.  He was a great teacher back in those early days of my career.  After I left the refinery in 1997, I next worked with Mel on some budgetary issues in 1992 at the Texaco Chemical Plant in Port Arthur shortly before Mel's retirement.

    My condolences to Mel's family.

    Jack Bess
