Barbara Elizabeth (Bassett) Wilcox passed away peacefully on August 1, 2021.
She was born on January 18, 1924, in St. Petersburg, FL, to Oren Victor and Gladys Osborn Bassett. She graduated from St. Pete High School and attended Stetson University studying music. She married Hugh B. Wilcox on August 16, 1944, who was serving in the US Army in Tampa, FL. They moved to Atlanta, GA, after his discharge so he could attend Dental School at Emory University. They relocated to Jacksonville, FL, after his graduation where he practiced dentistry until his death on February 13, 1975.
Barbara loved music and sang in the Chancel Choir at Southside United Methodist Church for over sixty years. After her husband’s passing, she relocated to Lakeland, FL, where she served as the associate council director of communications for the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church until 1995. She returned to Jacksonville to retire in 1995 where she lived out her life close to family and friends.
She is survived by thee sons Hugh, John and David and predeceased by a son Michael and a daughter in law, Pat Wilcox. In addition, she is survived by her daughter in law Jane Wilcox, former daughter in law Debby Wilcox, grandsons Dwain, Brian (Naomi), Matt (Abby), Jeff (Brittany), Oren and Colin Wilcox, grand daughter Michelle Puttbach, and her cousin Ann (Dan) Owens. She had nine great grand children; Joshua and Jonah (Sabrina) Puttbach, Harper, Kara, Olivia, Audrey, Graham, Matthew and Jacob Wilcox. She is survived by several nephews and nieces; Tom Monroe, Mark Bramlett, Nancy Barnard and Betsy Rountree and predeceased by a niece Nancy Guffey.
She was a strong and vibrant women and enjoyed many years with her PEO sisters.






Barbara Wilcox was a PEO sister of mine and a vibrant member of Chapter AY for many years. She was an amazing woman and was always volunteering to help with any project or job. She truly loved her family and her church. She will be sadly missed by our chapter .
