Ricky Howard Koon, 69, of O’Brien, FL, was called home on August 17, 2021 after a brief illness at North Florida Regional in Gainesville, FL. Ricky was born on February 5, 1952 to Howard and Dalene Koon in Atlanta, GA. After graduating from Columbia High School, he went on to begin a long career in auto mechanics. He enjoyed working on all aspects of gas and diesel vehicles, as well as bodywork throughout the years. He truly had a passion for helping others and sharing his knowledge with his son and grandsons. Ricky was a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church for many years; until his health started to fail, he was their grill master at every cookout. He never met someone without asking do you know Jesus.
He was predeceased in death by his wife Karen Koon, both of his parents, and a granddaughter Jade Humphries.
He is survived by his 4 children Shannon Staley, Michael Koon (Donna), Sara Baumgarten (Mathew), and Whitney Humphries (Jeremy) and 8 grandchildren MacKenzie Staley, Michael Koon, Mariah Koon, Logan Staley, Hunner Humphries, and Bristol Humphries, and two step grandchildren Andrew and Brooke Baumgarten as well as his 5 siblings and a host of nieces and nephews.
Ricky was a force of nature, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his family, and anyone who knew Ricky knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for.
