Ruth Ward

Ruth Darr Ward, age 90, of Gainesville, FL, passed away peacefully Aug. 23, 2021. Ruth was born on Dec. 4, in Burnside, Pennsylvania, to Harvey and Mabel Darr. She was preceded in death by her husband John Ward, her parents, and her siblings Clarence, Thomas, and Edward.

Left to cherish her memory are her five adult children: John (wife Stacey), Jim (wife Karen), Cheryl (husband Jerome), Ed, and Carol (husband Paul), twelve grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

During her career, Ruth worked as a secretary/administrative assistant for the American College of Cardiology, Neotech, Deluxe Check Printers, and NACS. And yet, she always had time to attend many of the activities her children and grandchildren were involved in. She was an active member of several Bridge clubs and played weekly until last year. She also loved playing other card games, Bingo, and completing the daily Jumble. Her children loved to tease her when she started making up words.

Ruth’s greatest joy was serving her family. You never went hungry at her home as one of her favorite sayings was “Would you like a little more?” There was always ice cream in the freezer, and usually plenty of chocolate, as it was one of her favorite treats.
