Gerald E. Strom of Chiefland, FL formerly of Goodland, MN passed away September 9, 2021 in Gainesville, Florida.
Gerald was born April 4, 1938 in Grand Rapids, MN to Ernest and Lydia Strom. Gerald attended grade school in Goodland and graduated from Nashwauk High School. He lied about his age so he could join the Army in 1955. He served in Okinawa and some time in the National Guard. He served until 1960 when he returned to Minnesota and married his grade school sweetheart, Nancy Wehde. He worked for the US Postal Service in Minneapolis for a while and when the mines started hiring in 1965, he was hired and moved back “Up North”. He worked for 30 years at Hanna Mining Company and National Steel in Keewatin and retired in 1995. He spent most of his retirement years in Florida where he was a member of the Eagles, American Legion, Am Vets, Moose Club, and Suwannee River Boat Club. Just days before the Lord took him home, he said some of his favorite memories were the 4th of July picnics with his kids and fishing with his dear friends, Ray and Alice Pletcher. His kids thought he must have also enjoyed clearing trees from acres of land and peeling poplar as well.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Lydia and Ernie; his three brothers, Wally, Dale, and Roger; his wife of 48 years, Nancy, and an infant son.
Gerald is survived by his wife of 11 years, Shirley; three daughters: Kim Strom of Coldwater, MS; Karen (Karl) Flier of Backus, MN; and Kathy Kennedy of La Grange, NC; one son, Ken Strom of St. Michael, MN; nine grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren.
Crevasse's simple Cremation is honored to serve the Strom Family.

We love you Dad, and will miss you greatly. Thank you Shirley for taking care of our father through his illness and you will always be a part of our family! With much love, Kim
We will miss Dad so so much! Although he is gone, we are grateful for so many wonderful memories. Dad, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words, and missed beyond measure!! Our thoughts are with Shirley and we are thankful for all she did to help make dad comfortable. ❤️
Dear Grandpa,
For me, you were everything a boy needed from a grandfather. Imaginative, creative, hardworking, humorous (your chuckling and your pranks), passionate in your interests, a fighter. Most of all, and most importantly, a loving and caring grandfather. You were an attuned listener, took care to be a good host, and you were mindful of your family’s futures.
Weekends with you and grandma are some of my fondest childhood memories. Sneaking us your snacks from the pantry and other stashes of candy from your lunch box supply. Things I can now only find at Menards of all places. Fishing and swimming right outside the door of your home. I have attempted to live out adventures of travel and flight, and occasional poor decisions of daredevilry…these are characteristics of your personality that brought color and richness to life. I wish we were closer in proximity and in spirit during my more matured adult years, and like most of us, yearn for more time and less distance now that you are gone.
You will live on in your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren through your humor, hard work, and zest for adventure. I hope to pass these parts of you, and my memories of you, on to my own children. Thank you for everything.
Love
Nick

I only saw my cousin Jerry a few times through the years living so far away. But those times remain special in my mind. He was mellow and kind, had a ready smile and quiet laughter, and humor ready to spill out. I am so glad he was able to come to my mother's (his aunt) 100th birthday in 2018. It meant a lot to her. My warm thoughts and prayers go out to all his family.
