Barbara Helgeson

Barbara Helgeson, age 85, passed away on September 24, 2021 at Estelle’s Hospice House in Ocala, Florida.  She was born and raised in Flint, Michigan to Joseph and Elizabeth Lukas.  Upon graduating from Flint Central High School, she attended nursing school to become an LPN.  She married the love of her life, Harry Helgeson, Sr., in October 1956.  Harry preceded her in death in 2018.    

Barbara will be fondly remembered as a thoughtful, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother and friend.  Many people that met her would say that she was the nicest person they ever met.  She worked as an LPN for many years until she transitioned her career to retail sales.   Prior to the progression of Dementia, she was an active member of Christ the King Anglican Church in Ocala, Florida.  

Barbara is survived by her three daughters, Susan Dunham, Sherry Sharlow, and Sally Helgeson; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her many nephews and nieces.  She is also survived by her close friends, Ella Griffin and Patricia Wood.  All of these she loved and touched deeply.  

She is also predeceased by her parents, Joseph Lukas and Elizabeth Lukas (Licquia); her son, Harry Helgeson, Jr.; and brothers, Joseph D. Lukas and Gary Licquia. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or Hospice of Marion County, Florida.
