Marcellus Morgan Jr

November 16, 2021

Marcellus (Marc) Morgan, Jr., age 72, died on November 16, 2021 after a sudden illness.

He was born in Gainesville, FL on Feb. 10, 1949 to Marjory Beville and Marcellus, Sr. Marc was a lifelong Gainesville resident and worked at Santa Fe (Community) College his entire career and retired from the Registrar’s office after nearly 40 years of service. He was an avid Florida Gator fan, believing that even in the toughest seasons eating a bowl of boiled peanuts during the game would bring them luck. He was an accomplished musician and played the violin in his younger years, trading that instrument for the bass guitar during his teens. He and some buddies started the group The Sewing Machine in high school and he often told of the gigs they would play around Central Florida. He loved fishing the lakes and rivers of Florida and especially loved salt-water fishing. Many memories will remain of family vacations spent all over Florida and those early morning and late-night surf-fishing trips with “just one more cast”. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting with his father and brothers throughout his life and in more recent years, joined his brother, David and his family out in the dove-field. Much to his family’s surprise, he even purchased an airboat to explore the local lakes. Marc loved his dogs and leaves behind two sad Yorkies.

Marc was preceded in death by his father, Marcellus, mother Marjory and brother Henry. He is survived by his brother David (Dawn), sister Susan, nephew David, niece Maria (Mike) and great-nephews Landon and Lucas.

Guestbook

  1. Happy birthday in heaven, Marc. I miss you calling me while I'm at work, I miss catching up with you, I miss hearing about the latest foreign movies on Netflix, I miss "guess what?" and making me guess 20 things before you'd share and I miss hearing about all the arbitrary and random things that happened to you during your day. You drove me crazy, you made me laugh and knew which buttons to push. It's been too quiet and you left us with more questions than answers. I wish we had had more time but I am so grateful for the time we had and the memories that we made. I miss you Markie.
