Quite the vagabond she was coming and going in and out of my
life like the changing of the  seasons . 
She showed up when I least expected and usually in the seasons that I needed her most.  She came when my daughter was getting married and I was overwhelmed. She traveled from California in an old VW van and spent nights 
In rest areas and ate crackers and Vienna sausage. She had money… plenty. She had a home several but she rarely was.   She recycled bottled water wherever there was a fountain. She was authentically real. 
She had a doctorate in psychology. She taught English in China’s schools during the summer and smuggled bibles into Russia on several occasions. 
In her spare time she fixed her own leaky roof and canned her own organic catsup. 
She was simplistic and easily the most interesting character I ever knew.  She gave gifts but not those bought in stores. She gave me one of the most valuable gifts any human can receive. She believed in me.  She was my hero and one made of the biggest contributions  of my entire life.  She taught me not to care if others liked me and to love anyway. She taught me to be honest with myself and everybody else. I thank God for every moment …..  I spent with her. 
I am one of the blessed ones who had the privilege of
Knowing Alice Wheeler. She only changed my life for the better, forever and I will always be grateful for her gift.
