Stephen Scranton

February 19, 2022

On February 19, 2022, Stephen Neal Scranton succumbed to his battle with cancer.  He was born October 22nd 1954 in Urbana, IL.  He leaves behind his wife of 39 years Kathleen, son, daughter, and grandson. As well as his children’s spouses and extended family.

Stephen worked at Kraft Foods in Champaign Illinois for 42 years and the Urbana School District.  Stephen spent most of his free time as a dedicated Christian, son, fierce friend, Husband, and father. He was a worship leader, deacon, and camp director. Most recently he was a member of Swiss Cove Covenant church of Switzerland, FL. Stephen loved fishing, music, spending time with friends and extended family, serving others, (in his younger days) his motorcycle, and mostly loving this family. Everyone who knew Stephen had an affection for his unique personality.

Stephen's primary and final desire was to share his faith so that all could know the love of their heavenly father.

Please reach out to the family via social media messengers or phone with any condolences. Please make any donations to your local food bank or shelter in lieu of gifts.

  1. Stephen was the best pal one could imagine for a younger and less athletic boy. He shared his interests in entertainment, fishing, and photography with me, along with a willing nature to climb atop sculptures of animals at a local mall. He had me over often on Sun afternoon lunches and late Fri evenings to watch classic war movies. Stephen guarded me, played with me, and never thought of bullying anyone with his superior size and muscular power; even rejected playing football as he might hurt someone else. My family eventually had to move away, and he even managed to visit. It saddens me to discover his passing, as the world was so much nicer with him as a part of it. May his family try and remember the golden memories of his life, and may the pain of his loss lessen daily. Goodbye Stephen, and please save me a smile when we meet again.
