On Friday, August 5, 2022, the Jessie family lost their hero. Carl "Butch" David Jessie passed away peacfully at North Florida Regional Medical Center in Gainesville Florida after a brief and unexpected illness. He was seen off by his Son Raymond; Ex-wife Barbara; and Daughter-in-law Mary-Kathlene.
Carl was born in Chicago IL on November 5, 1943 to Carl Simmons Jessie and Dorothy Abney. While attending Muscatine H.S. in Muscatine IA he enlisted in the Army Reserves as a cooks helper. He continued to serve his country in the Air Force as a Radio Intercept Analysis. While in the military he found a love of travel and culture, especially while stationed in Japan. After retiring from the Air Force, he moved to Alachua FL and worked for the Motor Pool at the University of Florida.
Carl enjoyed reading, learning new skills, and Judo. Into retirement he continued to practice Judo, eventually becoming an advisor at a local club. He learned how to forge knives, grow Bonsai trees, pottery, photography, and glass blowing. He was also generous with his contributions to wildlife foundations, Native American foundations, the USO, NRA, and local charities.
Carl is survived by his Son Raymond M. Jessie; his Sisters Patricia T. Evans and Magaret R. Ryan; and his Grandchildren Kerum D. Kendall, Kyrah A. Jessie, Rowan M. Jessie, and Lilith M. Jessie. He is predeceased by his father Carl Simmons Jessie and mother Dorothy Abney. His tireless love of country and devotion to his family were evident in the life he led.

Hadn’t seen butch in years but remember spending time in my teen years. He was 5 years older than me, but wasn’t too good to be around his cousins.
So sorry for the loss to your family.

Raymond, Mary Kate, and family:
I am so very sorry for your loss. Butch was a good man and the world is a lesser place without him in it. I know my dad, Ray Abney, loved him very much – they were more like brothers than uncle and nephew.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers,
Melinda Abney Kaiser and family
You will be missed

It's sad to hear another "silent warrior" has passed. I remember Butch from his days in the USAF Security Service…he was an excellent intercept operator and analyst. RIP.
