Louis Sanchez

August 23, 2022

Louis Sanchez, age 98, husband, father, brother, stepdad and friend, passed away peacefully in the city of Gainesville, Florida, and his many friends will mourn with the family at the loss of such a dynamic, contrary, colorful, complicated character. Lou is survived by daughters Louann and Patricia, son Craig, sister Virginia (Sanchez) Molitor, four stepsons: Kent, Mark, Craig and Todd Boesdorfer, and many nieces and nephews. Louis’s wife Joann (Gardner) Sanchez, mother of his children, preceded him in death in 1978. Louis was also predeceased by his brother Edward, his sister Rose and his wives Helen Halbert Sanchez and Gloria Boesdorfer Sanchez. Lou was a veteran of WWII who loved golf and loved Florida. He was born and raised in Chicago where he worked jobs including drapery installer and security guard. He spent most of his retirement in Lake Worth, Florida, where he played golf every chance he got. He met his fourth wife Helen in Lake Worth, where she conveniently lived along the golf course. With his tall stature and white hair, he forged a reputation on the links as “The Silver Fox,” often bewildering younger players with strength and powerful drives that belied his age. Lou was always willing to help friends in need; you knew you could count on Lou. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, and will always be remembered in their hearts. We are grateful to the people who have given us support and comfort during our time of loss. A private memorial gathering will be planned for a future date.

  1. I’ll miss you Uncle Lou. I’ll always remember when you came up to me at my wedding reception and said “so, the legion hall isn’t good enough for you?” I knew you meant the Legion Hall at 38th Place and Homan  in the old neighborhood 🙂 I miss that place and those good times, too.
