John Quincey (Quincy) Reynolds
01/19/1952 - 01/22/2023

In a poem titled "Shifting the Sun", Diana Der-Hovanessian wrote that "When your father dies, say the Irish, you lose your umbrella against bad weather." She was right. On January 22, 2023, I lost my father, John Quincey (Quincy) Reynolds, and my cover against stormy weather. He was 71 years old and had long been struggling and suffering with COPD. In the end, he spent his final moments in the care and comfort of his home and family.

My father was so much more than just the end of his story, however. As a devoted dad, John Reynolds showed his love by doing acts of service. He was always washing my car and painting or building furniture for me or my mom. He helped me with every move - he even once flew to Kentucky to help me move and rebuild my life after I left the military. He was also always incredibly supportive of my academic pursuits and ensured that as a child I got the support I needed to succeed in school. My father was so incredibly proud the day I got my Bachelor's degree.

Beyond being an amazing dad, John Reynolds was always the hardest worker in the room. Growing up, I really don't know how he did it but he managed to work all night stocking shelves with Frito-Lay and still pick me up from school with a smile on his face and play basketball or baseball with me. I have no idea where he got the energy. At home, he always felt like he had to be doing something useful around the house, whether it be yard work or cleaning something. No one could accuse my dad of being idle.

Although, he did learn to slow down a bit in his retirement. He loved sitting out on the patio and enjoying the splendor of nature. Butterflies were little angels and birds always brought a smile to his face. The sky at sunrise and sunset was a sight to behold for him. As a history buff and National Guard veteran, he enjoyed watching the History channel and anything having to do with WWI or WWII. He was also a huge John Wayne fan and loved Westerns but he equally loved Star Trek: The Next Generation and Jean-Luc Picard. He was always eager to play card games like rummy or Monopoly and liked to spend time with his family.

John Reynolds is survived by his wife, Kathy Reynolds, and his children David Reynolds, Shannon Cadman, Sarah Schuett, Alicia Reynolds and Cindy Woodruff.
