Ruby Livingston Gilstrap at the age of 92 departed peacefully and joyfully from this life and went home to be with her Savior on Jan 22, 2023. She is survived by her three boys, Harold, Vance and Alan along with their wives, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and their families, and one brother, Leonard Livingston of Sarasota. Ruby was a proud 4th generation Floridian, born outside of Ocala in Reddick, Florida as the oldest girl of eight children. After moving to Jacksonville at 19, she worked for Gulf Life Insurance and later for Dr. William H. Houston. Ruby was a long time member of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville where she sang in the choir, taught training union and met her husband R.F. Gilstrap. They were married by Dr Homer G. Lindsay Sr., for 60 years until her husband’s passing in 2011. She was a devoted Christian, wife, and mother throughout her life. She would say to her boys, “Love God and trust in Him. No one owes you anything, so work hard and don’t quit. Follow your dreams, and remember that nothing worthwhile is easy.” Her family and friends were always in her daily thoughts and prayers. Known as a hard worker, kind, gentle, and a friend, Ruby was loved by everyone who knew her.

During my highschool years, Ms Ruby was like a second mother to me. She ALWAYS had a smile and good word for me… We were always up to something and in spite of "Thangs", she loved us anyway… And I loved her back.
Loved your mom! She was a Wonderful person!
Your mother was really sweet and a Godly woman. I got concerned with your family through the Featherstones and Terry and I worked with her in 4th grade training union at FBCJax many years ago. I’m. sure Terry welcome her along with your dad also friends.
