Jimmy Rex Wright

March 31, 1960 ~ February 15, 2023

Jimmy Rex Wright was born March 31, 1960, in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended Forrest High School and stayed a lifelong resident of Duval County. He became a Licensed Optician in the late 1980’s and served his community for over 30 years helping many people see, including Tilley K. Fowler. He was a master of his trade and truly enjoyed what he did on a daily basis. He loved to be near the water, deep-sea fishing with his friends and family, or out at Henny’s lake with his daughter and nieces.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Glady Wright, brother Fred Wright, brother-in-law Ernie Bennett, and his faithful and loyal dogs, Jethro and RJ.

He is survived by the “Loves of his Life”, his daughter, Miranda Richards (Chris Lane) and his granddaughter, Autumn Lane. He is also survived by his favorite sisters, Glenda Collier (Dave), Frankie Robbins (Rob), Kathy Bennett (Ernie), a brother, Jack Wright, numerous nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and great-nephews.

Jimmy passed away after his battle with cancer on February 15, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations to: Custead Haven Hospice 745 Blanding Blvd, Orange Park, FL 32065.

The family would like to thank the Transitional Care Unit – UF Shands Hospital and the Custead Haven Hospice for the compassionate care given to Jimmy.

  1. I worked with Jimmy back at Opti World back in the late eighties early nineties. He was fun to work with, and very good at his job!
    He will be missed.

  2. Happy Heavenly Birthday Mr. Jimmy. You were so hilarious and kept a smile on my face after my dad died. We’d stay up laughing drinking Rum and you’ll be fussing at everyone at the house. Man do we miss you!!! Keep protecting us from Heaven. I’m so glad I talked to you about the Bible. 

  3. I worked with Jimmy at Opti-World in Orange Park in the late 80's. He was such a cool guy and so much fun to work with. Peace and love to his family.
