Gregory Alan Pearce

August 21, 1956 ~ March 5, 2023

Gregory Alan Pearce, beloved husband, father and grandfather; passed away on Sunday, March 5, 2023, in St. Augustine, FL from complications of cancer.

He was born in Berwyn, IL to Vivian and Bill Pearce on August 21, 1956. He became a Boeing Brat when his dad joined Boeing’s fledgling computer division, moving the family to Seattle, WA and eventually to Arlington, VA.

Watching the Boeing airplanes at Renton Field fueled Greg’s lifelong interest in all aspects of aviation. He was also a proud Eagle Scout, becoming active in his son’s troop and assisted Will in attaining Eagle Scout as well. He was also a life member of Sons of the American Revolution.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Greg was a computer professional for over 40 years, working for several small companies in the DC area.

He loved to travel! His adventures took him to China, to lava flows in Hawaii, coffee shops in Amsterdam, to see family and the whiskey distilleries in Scotland and to all 50 states.

The trip to Hawaii sparked an interest in all things tiki. Greg was an accomplished tiki carver, a consummate rum aficionado, builder of tiki rooms, and was very active in the DC Ohana.

His sense of wonder and desire to explore new things led him to make friends all over the world!

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, son William Alan, and brother Jay William. He is survived by his wife of 42 years; Julie, his beautiful daughter, Rachael; his son-in-law, Peter and his beautiful and bright granddaughters, Juliana Bay and Melanie River Fearing as well as brother Roger Eugene.

  1. Rachael,  will always have fond memories of your dad. Your parents were always welcoming to me and my family. I’ll remember your dad as always laughing and his love for planes. Prayers of comfort to your family.

  2. I have fond  memories of hanging out with Greg and his family in Arlington. The deep fried Turkey at one of the New Years partys was sublime. He was a kind and generous host. RIP GAP.

  3. I’m so sorry to hear about my old neighbor Greg! I first met Greg in Frederick, Md. when we lived in an apartment building on 7 West 3rd street, in about 1979. I ended up at a farm in Ijamsville, Md. and lo and behold I had a roommate named Julie Greenwell!!! I’m thinking that I might be responsible for Greg and Julie meeting! May Greg Pearce Rest In Peace 🙏🙏🙏

  4. Though we only met a few times, you were lovely, kind and gracious – and we found a connection in Tiki history and culture. I know your beautiful family will carry on your legacy for generations to come. ❤️

  5. Gonna miss my wonderful brother in law and friend…..I know you Chance and Cosmo are having a blast..:)

  6. My heart is literally hurting.  I’m praying for your family.  No family deserves to have the incredible pain and loss you’re all have experienced in such a short time.

  7. Greg was a fun-loving man. Never a dull moment or an empty glass when he was around. He will be truly missed. All my love to Julie, Rachael, Pete, JuliBay and Mellie ♥️

  8. Greg has been a good friend since high school. As our families grew, we were honored to still be part of each other's lives. We will never forget all the fun times we had together. It seems like we were just together enjoying a meal. We will miss Greg always. Our thoughts are with the family and all of his many friends.

  9. Greg, dear friend of over 40 years, you are already missed, and your memory will always be a Blessing.

  10. Greg may no longer walk amongst us but he is forever in our memories. He is credited with getting a few of us a really good start in our IT careers. Oh yes, Greg's Wylber was the 1st program I used. He and Julia were gracious to open up their house to us so we could get a start. I will forever remember this, the good times and consider him a mentor.

  11. I remember when Julie brought you home to meet us for the first time and I did NOT like you. I was such a surly teenager! We had a meeting of the minds in the past few years, and I can honestly say that I miss you. I’m glad that I knew you, glad that you were good to Julie and the family and glad that I considered you my brother. Thank you for putting up with me, Greg Pearce, I love you.

  12. We're missing Greg very much and we're sorry he never had a chance to come see us at our new home in Tennessee. He was such a kind, generous, and fun man. Julie, Racheal, and Peter, we're so sorry that you've lost Greg.

  13. He Is Not Dead

I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead. He is just away.
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand,
He has wandered into an unknown land
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since he lingers there.
And you—oh you, who the wildest yearn
For an old-time step, and the glad return,
Think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of There as the love of Here.
Think of him still as the same. I say,
He is not dead—he is just away.
