Lynette Lindsey

July 31, 2023

Lynette Lindsey passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Haven Hospice. She was born April 25, 1939, in Gainesville, FL to parents S.K. (Pete) Lindsey and Mary Ann Hill Lindsey. She graduated from Gainesville High School in 1957.

She was employed in various secretarial jobs over her career and at shelter for abused women. Her adventurous spirit led her to many different places. She especially loved the Southwest and the Native American culture. All animals, especially dogs, brought her special joy. Her favorite dog was a wolf/shepherd mix named Pawnee.

In her later years while living out in the country in Archer, she loved watching the cows and calves in the pasture around her house and keeping track of the blue birds and wrens building nests under the carport. Occasionally a bald eagle would delight her in a pine tree behind the house.

Lynette fought a lengthy battle with breast cancer, beginning in the late 1990’s. After reoccurring and being treated multiple times, it metastasized in 2015. In 2016 she moved to Florida and lived in Archer. Upon returning she was referred to Florida Cancer Specialists and was treated by a young, compassionate oncologist, Dr. Vijay Patel. She and Dr. Patel had a special relationship, and she dearly loved him and had the utmost respect and admiration for him. If only all doctors had his bedside manner.

Lynette is predeceased by her parents, Mary Ann Hill Carr Lindsey and Pete Lindsey. She is survived by her only child, Gene Turner, New Mexico, brother. Fletcher Lindsey (Gainesville), sister Marion Preston (Williston), and two close cousins, Edwina Hope (Gainesville) and Gail Batey (Archer).

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 26. Please contact the family for Service information.

Those who wish may donate in her memory to Haven Hospice.

Guestbook

  1. Lynette was an amazing and beautiful spirit who brought love to all the lives she touched. What an honor and blessing to have known her over the past 40 years. Thank you for all you brought to my life and all you taught me.

  2. I am honored to call Lynette one of my best friends for more than 40 years. Her spirit, energy and wisdom were gifts but her natural inclination to learn and play were equally present. She is engrained in so many hearts and though I miss her dearly, I am and will always have her close in my heart.
