A beautiful spirit and shining light to all who knew him, Scott Lewis Basford was called home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2023. He was surrounded by family members and very close friends when he passed away at the age of 59, one week after a tragic motorcycle accident.
Scott was a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. During that time and after, he was the drummer in a group called Journey’s End with his brother Brett and some friends. He became interested in woodworking at the age of 17, and with Lenny McAneny Sr. as a special mentor, learned his craft with on-the-job training. Scott and his fellow craftsman, Jerry Daniel, started their own business in 1992 which grew and became very successful. They never advertised but built their business on word-of-mouth recommendations. Scott was a Master Craftsman and along with Jerry, he loved creating beautiful furniture, cabinets, and anything with wood. He dealt with all customers at his place of business, Artisan Design Concepts, with honesty and integrity. Scott was a perfectionist and would always make sure that the things produced in their shop were the quality of work that the customers desired.
Scott’s other great passions were skydiving and riding his Harley. He never married but was an incredible son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. Scott was born in Jacksonville on June 17, 1964, and remained in this community throughout his life. He was a free spirit, loved by his family beyond measure and had a multitude of friends. He had a compassionate heart, a delightful sense of humor, and an enormous amount of energy. He is survived by his parents, Hayes and Norma Basford, his brothers Brett Basford (wife, Joyce), Matt Basford, his nieces, Brenna and Mason, his nephew, Jace, and many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, NAMI Jacksonville, or a charity of your choice.
Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Basford family.

I've known Scott since I was around 13 y.o. (Currently 46) and he was always a good guy. He was my dad's business partner up until his passing. Great guy and great drummer…he will be missed.
We love you more than you'd ever know. You are and always will be our brother, best man, our Scotty.
You will always be in our hearts. You will never be forgotten.

You are not alone.

R.I.P. My friend! ❤️🙏🥁🎼
Deepest sympathy to everyone that loved Scott. He has been a part of my family’s life since I was 10 years old. Scott took me to my first concert (without parents!) when I was 13. I thought he was so cool because he knew the sound guy. I think I still have my Journey’s End cassette tape.
He was always willing to help my husband and I out when we were newly weds and bought a house that needed renovations. He was just an all around good guy. He will be missed and always remembered.
Scott was a lovely, beautiful guy. My deepest condolences to his family.

Scott passing is a sobering reminder we are allowed only a short time on this earth. Even though it was short, Scott lived his life exactly the way he wanted. My heart is broken. He will be sorely missed and remembered as a great friend. Until we meet again….
Scott was our high performance catcher on the Coke team at NOL in the mid 70s. He was also my personal drum mentor, igniting a lifetime passion for drumming that is alive and well as I type this heartbroken homage. Just the other day, a friend and I recalled the first time we saw Scott play his gigantic Slingerland drum set along to ELO’s “Evil Woman.” He inspired us to earn money mowing lawns so we could buy our own kits as well. I often recall his encouraging remarks about my progress and will never forget the time he asked me to break down a groove of mine he happened to like. I was in the process of trying to get his contact information, and I could kick myself for not being more aggressive in this pursuit. Scott, RIP my friend. You will always be with us.
Norma, Hayes I have been devastated over the past week.

Debi and I are so saddened by this. I first met Scott back in the 90s while skydiving. Scott was always a lot of fun to be around. I found out over the years that he had a huge generous heart. He would help anyone who needed it. Scott was so enthusiastic at every endeavor, be it skydiving, Harley's, woodworking, or his music. Always upbeat and encouraging. When I got into woodworking years later he was so encouraging to me and he was always willing to give me advice. Scott will be missed by everyone who knew him. Prayers to his family. . Blue skies Scott!
Prayers for Hayes, Norma and family, we have 3 boys also, can't even begin to imagine facing a tragic event like this – know you have strong faith and many friends around you for support. RIP, Scott.
He lived behind my brother in Jacksonville. I met him while visiting my brother and his hot tub started smoking and we had to call the fire department. He became a good friend, helping me through a difficult situation. We stayed in touch for 21 years, able to pick up wherever we left off. We lived 900 miles apart and always made time for each other’s calls. I haven’t listened to music the same since meeting you dear friend and I never will again. I miss you.
