David Butler Pratt, 71, of Jasper, Florida and Falmouth, Maine, went to be with the angels after a brief yet courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday February 20th, 2024. He was born on August 26th, 1952 in Portland, Maine to Esther Pearl Howe Pratt and Butler Hillman Pratt, Jr.
David attended schools in Portland, Maine, Fort Campbell, Kentucky and graduated from Falmouth High School on June 19th, 1970 in Falmouth, Maine.
At the age of 19, David enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He was a proud Marine Veteran and valued his service to his country. David was an MP and attained the rank of corporal. He was honorably discharged from the USMC on October 28th, 1975. David lived by the phrase “Once a Marine, always a Marine.”
David migrated south in the early 1980s and eventually settled in The Swamp, as he called it in Jasper, Florida. He was a kind, loving and humorous man who brought joy, laughter and a helping hand wherever he went. David was a great listener, a shoulder to lean on and he had the gift of gab. He was famous for his middle of the night phone calls simply because he wanted to chitchat and catch up on current events. David truly treasured his family and friends. Any time he would visit Maine, he enjoyed spending time at the Pratt Family Camp in Byron. David also loved his New England sports teams. He was a dedicated fan and had the same cable company for twenty-two years simply to watch his Boston Red Sox & New England Patriots.
David was predeceased by his parents, his nephew Stephen Butler Pratt of Falmouth, Maine and his great-granddaughter Charleigh Danielle Hoyt-Bowden of Oxford, Maine who got to heaven just a few days before her great-grumpa on February 17th, 2024.
David is survived by his one and only daughter, Starr Mae Mowatt of Mexico, Maine. Three grandsons: Justyce Daniel Bowden and girlfriend Ada-Marie Hoyt of Oxford, Maine. Twins: Trenton Lawrence Jordan Kimball and Trae Lee Hazen Kimball of Mexico, Maine and one granddaughter also known as grumpa’s little spitfire, Cadence Adeline Jean Mowatt and her boyfriend Timothy Webber of Madrid, Maine. One great-grandson Greyson Gary Bowden of Oxford, Maine. Brother Brian Pratt of Falmouth, Maine. Sister Cheryl Pothoven and husband Dennis of Edmonds, Washington and sister Michelle Pratt of Oxford, Maine. Nieces Jessica, Cathryn, Chelsea, Meredith along with nephews Chris and Colby. David is also survived by his longtime best friend of forty years or so and birthday buddy, Marian McCormick of Jasper, Florida who was right by his side, taking care of him throughout the last few months of his life. Thank you Marian.
We will always carry your memories and spirt in our hearts.
