John Charles Churchill (Jack) was born in Lawrence Hospital, Bronxville, NY on September 10, 1942. He attended P. S 8 for elementary school. As the family lived on a dead end street, Jack and his buddies played stickball games in the street every evening after dinner in good weather. From those early days, he was clearly a gifted athlete.
Jack would pretend to be a radio host as a youth and collected hundreds of records, sparking a lifelong love of music.
For middle school he attended Halsted, a private school in Yonkers, NY.
His high school years were at Roosevelt School also in Yonkers. There he excelled in basketball and baseball which is noted in trophies with his name still present at the school.
Always a Yankee fan, he often went to games with his friend and a mitt. A Sports Illustrated photo shows Jack in the bleachers catching Yogi Berra’s 250th home run. He completed Junior college at Mitchell in Statesville , N.C. And
College was at East Tennessee State where he majored in Business.
As his parents had relocated to Georgia , he began working at J.C.Penney but was drafted by the U.S. Army(August 1966-August 1968). While serving as a Personnel Specialist at Ft. Knox ,Ky. Jack met the love of his life , Miss Kitty (Katherine Thompson) at Whispering Hills Country Club in Louisville, Ky. They wed June 14, 1969 and were happily married for 54+ years. He had a 34 year career in retail with the J.C. Penney stores in Atlanta and South Florida. After retirement from JCP he worked in Customer Service for Delta Airlines. His remaining years were happily spent in Maggie Valley, N.C., and Dunedin, FL where he had many friends, sports, and spent many hours as a hospital volunteer. He was the perfect Dad , father-in-law and Grandfather (“Papaw”) to Christine Churchill Kenneth( Robert J. Kenneth), Candace Churchill (Andrew Reynolds), and Devin and Liam Kenneth , and Max Reynolds Churchill, all of Gainesville, Florida. Jack is also survived by his wife and his sister, Diane Churchill of South Nyack, N.Y. Dementia robbed him in the end (May 17, 2024 at 9:30 am in Gainesville, Fl) but couldn’t destroy his spirit and love for music, family and friends. He sang with loved ones on his last day, even when he couldn’t open his eyes. May “this Jack” rest in peace.

Candi — I never met your Dad, but there are some amazing times when we were in Louisville (my home town) simultaneously And what a great story about the mitt and the Yogi Berra 250th home run! I know these are difficult and melancholy times, but I can tell that he left you all wondergul memories. What a lovely parting gift….
Daddy, I love you and will always carry your laugh and warm smile in my heart. Thanks for so many things: tossing me in the pool over and over as a kid (again!), sharing your passion for music and fitness, showing me a man could be emotional and strong and loving. I am glad you no longer suffer, please rest now. Thank you for the time and love you gave us.Â
To Candi & Family,
Keep your memories fresh in your mind. And know that your Dad had a home run lifetime!!

To Candi and Family, My deepest condolences for your loss. I remember Jack from when Candi and I were in high school together. Although, it has been many years, to see what a wonderful woman he raised in Candi is a testament to the wonderful man he was as well. My heart goes out to you and I am keeping you close in my prayers. May he rest in peace. Sending you all my love.
What a beautiful story of Jacks life!  Wish we could have known him better.  Sounds like he had a big heart for family and life!!  Such  great memories And I hope he still had that baseball, that’s an amazing story 🩷.  Love you all and prayers for comfortÂ

Candi, Christy, and aunt Kitty. Jack was a great uncle. Always laughing whenever I saw him. I always enjoyed anytime any of you four visited. He will be missed but I do have lots of good memories to remember him by. Jack was always happy with a huge smile! Love Mat Thompson
Jack was such a kind and generous soul! He welcomed me and Matt with open arms when we vacationed with Andrew and Candi in Maggie Valley and then drove us all through the Smokey Mountains! He was a lovely man and will be missed. My love to the family.Â

I wish we would have stayed in touch..I heard after the fact from my sister Diane who heard from Jack's sister Diane. Last talked with Jack at our 50th high school reunion.
Jack was a good fried through our early years from grade thru high school and we met again at Fort Knox KY where Jack maybe saved my life by helping to get me transferred from AIT to perm party at the Personnel branch at Ft. Knox.
Love to Kitty and the remaining Churchill clan.
