Mr. Michael Thomas Horne, beloved father and grandfather, passed away on July 20, 2024 after a short illness.
Michael was born and raised in Melbourne, Florida. He served in the Air Force for 4 years, and then returned to Melbourne to raise his family and work as an educator. Michael retired from the Brevard County School System, where he worked for over 30 years as a teacher and principal.
After moving to Gainesville, he was active in Trinity United Methodist Church with his late wife, Tootsie. Michael was an avid outdoorsman his whole life. He loved to hunt and fish, and enjoyed being outdoors in his garden. He loved to bring the outdoors inside, as an avid painter of outdoor landscapes and animals.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa Rickert, son Patrick Horne and his wife Melissa; grandchildren Jenna, Aaron, Tyler, and Jackson, and 6 great grandchildren.

Our sincerest condolences to Mikes family. Rest in peace.
It was an honor to know and work for Mr. Horne at Turner Elementary. He was an incredible leader who mentored and guided some of Brevard's finest teachers and principals. We had an amazing faculty and staff at Turner and those years with Mr. Horne as our principal were some of the very best. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this time. I know he will be cheering on the Gators from heaven with Tootsie!
