Byron "Bud" D. Cope

June 4, 2024

On June 4, 2024, after a long illness, Byron D. “Bud” Cope passed away. He was born on February 22, 1938 in New Waterford, Ohio. He grew up in East Palestine, Ohio, where he worked various jobs including at his Uncle Paul's skating rink. His stories sounded more like fun; skate dancing and swinging the girls around.

After two years in the Navy he moved to Tampa, Fl. and worked for the Singer Company. He was transferred to Gainesville and opened his own store, A-1 Sewing & Vacuum Center. He served the community with true customer service for 38 yrs. He and his wife, Shirley, moved to their lake house in Putnam Co. to fulfill their dream of a country life.  Together, with family and friends, they spent many days filled with love and laughter.

Bud enjoyed people and he would do anything for you whether family or a stranger. We were all blessed to have him touch our lives. He is survived by Shirley, his wife of 52 years, his twin brother Paul (Delores), his son Wm. Paul, step-son Emery Glynn Thrift (Valerie), step-daughter Sherilyn Wood (Bob), and wonderful grand and great grandchildren.

  1. Bud was such a great guy who never met a stranger. A man who was easy to know and love. Bud Cope touched many lives in positive ways. He will be missed.

  2. He will definitely be missed. I don’t know what I would have done without him and Shirley in my life. So grateful to both of them. His humor and kindness will always be with us.

  3. Dear bud, thank you for the years of loving and guiding me. I still think of you often . Fishing , shucking and eating those wonderful oysters, loving our dogs together , working in vehicles and of course all those miller light beers. I’ll catch up with you down the road a bit.
