Suzanne Burton

Suzanne Rosalie Burton (née Caruso), aged 83, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on August 21, 1940, in Jersey City, New Jersey, Suzanne was a beacon of warmth and generosity throughout her life, touching the lives of many with her caring and kind nature.

Suzanne was a devoted Navy spouse, adeptly managing the challenges of frequent relocations as she followed her husband through various duty stations including Corpus Christi, Texas; Paris, France; Kenitra, Morocco; Pensacola, Florida; St. Petersburg, Florida; Washington DC; and finally Jacksonville, Florida. Her adaptability and strength were pillars of support to her family during these times.

Throughout her life, Suzanne held a variety of jobs, reflecting her versatile skills and resilient spirit. Her career spanned roles at C.L. Carr's Department Store and P.W. Minor Shoe Company in Batavia, NY, display artist at Navy Exchange in Kenitra, Morocco, and Lerner's Department Store in Pensacola, Florida. She also undertook secretarial work and roles in the restaurant industry, notably enjoying her time as a school bus driver in Washington D.C. and Jacksonville, Florida, where she cherished her "bus riders" as if they were her own children.

Suzanne's hobbies were as diverse as her career, including drawing, painting, sewing, gardening, writing, and cooking. She was an active volunteer in various organizations such as the Navy Wives Club, Red Cross, and PTA, among others. Her involvement in the community was a testament to her generous spirit and commitment to service.

Suzanne is survived by her children, Edie (Ed) Brooks, Frank (Diane) Burton, and Teresa (Todd) Bates; grandchildren, Jarrod (Andrea) Burton, Sessa (Micah) Brooks, Douglas (Leigh-Anne) Brooks, Marissa (Cindy) Brown, Dylan Bates, and Ian Bates; and great-grandchildren, Giovanni, Elliot, Aubrey, Silvio, Cameron, and Baby Brown expected this Fall. She also leaves behind her sister, Patti Caruso-Hunt; brothers, Charles Caruso Jr., and William Caruso; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Her ex-husband, James Burton, also survives her. Suzanne was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rose Caruso; brother-in-law, Arthur Hunt; and nephew, Jeremy Hunt.
