Raymond Leslie Chasteen

Raymond Leslie Chasteen, 61, of Carriere, Mississippi passed away October 15, 2024.

Beloved husband and father, son, brother, and friend. Ray Chasteen, a native of Miami, FL, passed away after a long illness due to sudden, tragic complications. He leaves behind a young son, who was his everything.

Before his illness and before relocating to the Greater New Orleans area, he was an avid fisherman and sport fishing captain. So I will close with a few words from our favorite book passage, the opening page of Hemingway’s Islands in the Stream. A perfect depiction of Ray’s beloved islands, “painted with words” as he used to say.

Captain Ray, I hope you are out there catching them.

“At night the sharks came in close to the beach, hunting in the edge of the Stream and from the upper porch of the house on quiet nights you could hear the splashing of the fish they hunted and if you went down to the beach you could see the phosphorescent wakes they made in the water. At night the sharks had no fear and everything else feared them.
