Michael William Daw

December 19, 1948 ~ October 30, 2024

With grateful hearts, we honor the passing of Michael William Daw of Saint  Augustine, Florida on October 30, 2024 at age 75. Michael was born on December 19, 1948 in Chicago, IL to Albert and Dorothy Daw. 

He was a graduate of Thomas Edison H.S., Elmira, NY in 1967. He served his country as a Marine and received the following: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Combat Action Ribbon.

He spent his young adult life as a machinist at Hardinge Brothers in Elmira, NY, then chose to be a Correctional Officer and retired with the NY State Prison System. He enjoyed fast cars, and also loved exploring and adventure. He was a resilient man who enjoyed his time here on Earth with the love, nature and beauty it let him experience. 

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Pearl Daw of Elmira, NY; daughter, Frances A. Smith of St. Augustine, FL (son-in-law Kenneth); son, Nigel A. Daw of Horseheads, NY (daughter-in-law Sara) grandchildren Alexis, Randy, Claira, and Trenton; siblings Suellen Durfey, Darcy Kea, Nancy Kane, Mark Daw, and Kelly Kiser along with several nieces and nephews.

  1. I am sorry to hear the passing of Mr. Daw. I only met him briefly as he was moving to Saint Augustine. He was a very sweet man and it was a pleasure to assist him in his closing at our office. I pray that the family will find peace and comfort during this phase. May God be with you all and his Spirit be poured upon you.
