Barbara Jane Michael

February 24, 2025

Barbara Jane Michael passed away February 24, 2025 in Saint Augustine, FL.  Born on January 25, 1947, to Jane Taylor and Cloyes T. Hall, in Bath, NY.  Barbara spent most of her life in New York's Finger Lakes region and in Saint Augustine, FL.

Barbara graduated from Haverling High School in 1965 and received her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Syracuse University in 1969 and 1970.  A lover of book sand reading,, she worked as a school librarian for over 25 years.

In 1970, Barbara married Douglas Michael, a classmate at Syracuse University.  Together, they raised two children, Timothy Hall and Jennifer Cloyes, and were blessed with four grandchildren: Winston, Beatrice, Theodore (Teddy) and Victor.

Barbara loved to travel and to experiment in the kitchen; however her happy place was with a good book, especially a nail-biting mystery.  One of her greatest pleasures was reading to and with her grandchildren.

Predeceased by her parents, Jane and Cloyes (CT), Barbara is survived by her husband Douglas; her children Timothy (Janet) Michael of Furlong, PA and Jennifer Michael-Gonsalves of Saint Augustine, FL; grandchildren Winston and Beatrice Michael and Theodore and Victor Gonsalves.

Barbara's wishes were that she be cremated and laid to rest in the Memorial Columbarium at Memorial Presbyterian Church in historic Saint Augustine where she was a long time member.  A service of interment will be held at a later date.

  1. I was so happy to move into  the  Oakbrook Community and find this lovely woman in a daily neighborhood walking group!  Barbara,  along with Chris R, Marty, Panna and more,  circled the neighborhood every morning discussing unlimited topics!  Amazing to discover how well we eventually got to know each other. I’ll forever be grateful  for these walks and will miss Barbara for her warm and comfortable companionship. RIP, Barb!

  2. Such a beautiful spirit. Just endlessly soft and kind to everyone. She was really funny too, in a quiet, under the table sort of way. She will be missed certainly. Love to all of her family and friends. Prayers of comfort and sincere condolences.

  3. Doug.  We have such great memories of getting together with you and Barbara ! We miss both of you and thank you for your Christian friendship with us ! We never remember Barbara complaining about anything ! We look forward to when we will see her again in Heaven!  Love Sandy and Dan

  4. To Doug and Family,
I remember lots of fun times with Doug and Barbara as they were part of a coffee group that gathered once a month at my home. They're delightful couple, and fun to listen to their stories, as well as good practical advice especially on gardening.
Barbara was a very lovely person, smart and witty. She will be greatly missed.
Sending much love to the family.
    Mary
