Nancy Ann Controne

October 27, 1947 ~ April 22, 2025

Nancy Ann Controne, born on October 27, 1947, in Yonkers, NY, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 22, 2025, at the age of 77, in her home in St. Augustine, Florida. A dedicated wife, mother and beloved member of her community.

Nancy's life was marked by her deep commitment to family and education. Her dedication to nurturing young minds was evident in her career as a (retired) elementary school teacher's aide, where she left a lasting impact on countless children. Her commitment to her work was paralleled only by her devotion to her family, which she cherished above all.

On November 13, 1965, Nancy married the love of her life, Robert Wallace Controne, Sr. with whom she shared a bond that weathered all storms until his passing. Their marriage was a testament to love and partnership, and her fond memories of Robert brought her comfort throughout her life.

Nancy was a devoted and loving mother to her three children; Lisa Sian of Bunnell, Florida, Robert W. Controne, Jr. of Hinesville, Georgia and Jennifer Jamal of New York.

Nancy is also survived by her three brothers; Richard (Roseanne) Linkowski of NY, William (Carol) Linkowski of NJ, and Edward (Margaret) Linkowski of GA.

She will also be missed by her ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by one great-grandchild.

Nancy's faith played a significant role in her life, as she embraced Christianity with a moderate but heartfelt devotion. She found solace and strength in her beliefs, which carried her through life's challenges with grace and dignity.

In accordance with Nancy's wishes, there will be no formal service. Instead Crevasse's Simple Cremation will handle her final arrangements. Her family and friends are invited to remember Nancy in their own personal ways, cherishing the memories of her compassionate spirit and the love she shared with those around her.

In her final days, Nancy displayed the same serenity that defined her life. In a moment of quiet contemplation, she asked, "When am I going home?" knowing her journey was coming to a peaceful close. She went to sleep and passed a few days later. Her gentle departure is a reflection of the peaceful life she led, leaving behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be fondly remembered by her family, friends and the community she touched so deeply. A testament to a life well lived.

  1. Mom, you were a very strong woman. We had some great times through this year going to barbeques, shopping and of course your favorite Carrabbas.
You even stayed up and watched the ball drop this past New Year.
It was the hardest thing I have ever endured watching you waste away and I couldn't do anything to fix it and keep you here with me. I know that you are back with daddy now and no longer suffering. You asked me when you were going home, you now are.
Rest in peace ma. I love you

  2. My grandma and I have built an amazing bond over the last 14 + years that she has been in Florida. We shared so much love for one another and I could not have asked for a better relationship with her! We always picked on each other, it was our way of showing love and it was great. I was one of her favorite people! The past few months or so have been the hardest watching her slowly fade but I was by her side the whole time. Sharing stories of her career and her love for education, talking about her granddaughters who she absolutely loved and adored. They also got to see her and talk to her, they also shared good memories with their great grandma that they will forever hold dear in their hearts. I love you Grandma and I hope you and grandpa are relaxing and living your best afterlife together! We love you so much Grandma and will see you again one day!
