Richard Frank Guay

December 20, 1947 ~ June 1, 2025

So very sad to let you know of the passing of Richard Guay on June 1, 2025 at the age of 77.

His battle with cancer over the past year showed his courage in facing life's challenges with a smile.  He remained positive to the end.

Richard was born in Lynn, MA then moved to Miami with his mom and brother.  He attended Miami Edison High School.  As an occupation Richard was an accomplished machinist before computerized lathes, helping to build helicopters and yachts.  In 1983 he moved to Gainesville and studied to become a building contractor, especially loving finishing type work.  He was very skilled with his hands and always enjoyed meeting people.

His love of art glass and antiques led to having a store called the Painted Lady in High Springs.

Richard and I had 13 wonderful years together.  He was by best friend and the love of my life, going together for 3 years in high school then reconnecting later in life, marrying in 2016. (Richard always loved telling that story).  We loved camping and going to many music concerts as well as enjoying our friends and family.  He always had a great love of music especially, The Doors.

Richard was previously happily married to Regina for 30 years until her passing in 2010.  Joel Ingrassia, their son, is currently living in NC.  He also leaves behind his brother, Robert Guay and cousin, Charlie and many friends.

His kindness and generosity will be missed by all.  It was a pleasure to have had him in my life, I will always be grateful.

Cynthia Matteson-Guay

  1. I will miss my friend very much. He and I knew one another for 30 years. My wife Ro and I wish Cynthia our deepest sympathy.

  2. I'm heartbroken that my dad has passed suddenly. I am thankful for him as he taught me everything from tying my shoes as a young boy to driving a car as a teenager. I haven't seen him since December 2023 and I miss him very much as I was looking forward getting together for Thanksgiving. Rest in Heaven, Dad!

  3. Richard was a wonderful guy. I knew him through Joel, and they both included me in Christmas dinners at his home, which were so nice. I’m so sorry for his loss.
