George Harold Lacharite, 96, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 27, 2025. Born on September 24, 1928, in Winooski, Vermont, George lived a full and creative life, marked by love, faith, and craftsmanship.
George is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Lacharite; sons, Christopher and Matthew Lacharite; stepchildren, Heidi Lucas (and her husband Bob) and James Dekker; his brother, Babe Lacharite (and wife Bettye); sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Jan and Bob Smit; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Warren and Cindy Stiegman. He was preceded in death by his daughter Cindy and all of his older siblings.
A dedicated professional, George spent his career as a customer service representative with IBM. He also proudly served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, retiring with honor.
George was an artist at heart. He created stunning stained glass pieces that brought light and beauty into the lives of many. As the work became more physically demanding, he turned to woodworking—building tables and turning pens and bowls with great skill and joy.
His heart found a second home at Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church, where his faith flourished and friendships deepened. He especially cherished his time working alongside Pastor Johnson and Jim Kresge, and held a deep affection for Pastor Phillips. His church community was a lifelong source of joy and belonging.
Please contact the family for details of the upcoming memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Shepherd of the Woods Lutheran Church in George’s memory.
Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Lacharite family.

My sincerest condolences to George’s family. Heidi and Bob, I am so sorry to hear of George’s passing….he was such a very cool man, and a warrior runner! I remember dinners with George and your mom, comparing our racing experiences….that running must have contributed to his longevity – 96 years is quite impressive. Big hug to you both, I know he will be so missed.
Pam
