James "Jimbo" Earl Schmaltz

January 18, 1960 ~ July 21, 2025

James "Jimbo" Earl Schmaltz, 65, of Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, at Hospice House in Ocala. He was born on January 18, 1960, in Palm Beach, Florida, to Virginia Ruth Prothero and Robert Dean Schmaltz.

Jimbo lived a life marked by hard work, quiet strength, and a heart always open to others. A skilled carpenter by trade, he built more than homes — he built relationships, memories, and a reputation as someone you could always count on. Tough, resilient, and never backed down from a challenge, always ready to lend a helping hand.

He was the kind of man who didn’t need much — just the woods, the water, and the ones he loved. He was the happiest outdoors, whether he was hunting, casting a line, or simply kicking back with a cold beer after a long day's work.

Jimbo lived life on his own terms, a free spirit who went with the flow, yet always showed up when it mattered.

Jimbo is survived by his beloved daughters, Marlene Hollatz Grissom; Savannah (Kullen) Schmaltz & his 2 grandsons, Carter and Ryder, who brought him great joy; his brother, Kevin Schmaltz; nieces, nephews, many friends which turned to family - Scott & Renee Smith, hold a special place in his heart.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Ruth Prothero; father, Robert Dean Schmaltz; step-mother Judy Schmaltz, as well as his brother, Robert “Bobby” Schmaltz.

To know him was to know kindness, loyalty, and a bit of good-natured grit. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the work he crafted, and the memories shared by all who knew him.

In true Jimbo fashion, there will not be a formal service — raise a glass, share a good story, and remember him with a smile. The family appreciates your thoughts, prayers, and memories during this difficult time.
