Donald O. Brown

Donald O. Brown (AKA Don THE Barber), 82, of Jacksonville Beach, FL passed away at home, surrounded by his family on August 19, 2025. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC on November 10, 1942.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ann Brown; daughters Shirley (Austin) Dutcher and Chriss ( Shelly) Brown; sons Paul O. Head, Jr. and Matthew Head; granddaughters Katie ( Scott) Perdue and Sarah ( Jeffrey ) Doughty; 7 great-grandchildren Asher, Hayes, Emory & Davis Perdue, Riley, Jase, and Luke Doughty; sisters Brenda and Jane Brown; and brother Terry Brown.

He is preceded in death by 3 brothers: Kenneth Ashley, Harry Brown and Paul O. Head, Sr.

Don and Ann were married February 12, 1960, moved to Jacksonville, FL, 1960. Don graduated Florida Barber College December,1962. He loved being a barber, said the people were the best part of his job. Opened his first Barber shop in the Seaboard Coastline (CSX) Bldg in 1967,
established his first of 3 Barber shops in the Beaches area in 1977. He treated every customer the same-with respect-open arms- and would help anyone that needed something--many free haircuts. He loved riding his BMW motorcycle-playing golf with Ann- the many trips they took. He was most proud of his "GIRLS" -loved being a girl Dad. 

The family would like to recognize the Mayo Clinic for their wonderful care--Dr. Joseph Blackshear- Dr. Leslie Cooper. Also, Community Hospice for their services.

  2. Ann, Shirley and Chriss you definitely had the “GOAT” Dad!! I know because I considered Don my second daddy. Don‘s legacy will continue through your memories, stories and your drive.  Thank you for sharing him with us all. Knowing Don for 62 years just wasn’t long enough.
