Thomas Edison Farmer, Jr.

July 17, 1943 ~ August 28, 2025

The life of Rev. Dr. Tom Farmer Jr. – a life of extravagant love, acceptance, and generosity, that wrapped all its recipients in the love of Jesus Christ, was finally complete on August 28, 2025.

His journey began in Troy, Alabama with Tom and Helen Farmer on July 17, 1943.

He received his education from Florida State University (BS), Emory University (BD; MDiv) and the Presbyterian Theological Seminary (DMin). The churches Tom served include St. Andrew in Titusville (3 yrs.), John Wesley in Tallahassee (10 yrs.), First United in Jacksonville (6 yrs.), and St. Paul (a 4000+ member church) in Largo (20 yrs.). In retirement Tom served at Trinity United Methodist in Gainesville and Keystone United Methodist.

His passion for spreading God’s love flowed from the pulpit into moments he shared with everyone he met. These encounters, embodying the unconditional love of Christ, left footprints on the hearts of all, wherever he walked. From fundraising in his community, to helping others heal in couple’s counseling, the steps he took were significant to Kingdom building.
He frequently spoke at retreats and revivals, which trickled even into retirement where he and his wife Peggy, had an online ministry called, Walking with Jesus.

The love of his life was Peggy Kennedy, who caught his attention and his heart in Tallahassee, FL where they both attended FSU. Across the 59 years of marriage they shared (61 yrs. together), his eyes sparkled most when talking about her or their three daughters, Paige (Marc), Ashby, and Brooke (Andrew).

As the Papa to six grandchildren, Ashton, Noah, Adelyn, Bay, Ava, and Grant, he will always be remembered for his spontaneous explosions of fun and making even trips to the gas station magical.

Though his absence is heavy on all hearts who truly knew him, the ripple effect of this Warrior of Christ, will forever be felt as his thunderous shouts of “Glory!!!” will be echoed across the lives he changed.

Now, he is surely hearing the applause of Heaven to which we shout, “GLORY!”

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his remembrance to a local church of choice.

Crevasse's Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Farmer family.

Guestbook

  1. My deepest condolences to the family of my cousin, Tommy. He was a fine person and brought much goodness into this world.

  2. Thank you for helping me reconcile with my father through your father-figure advice.

May God wrap His everlasting loving arms around your family and give them comfort and peace.

  3. The world is a bit quieter, lonelier, and sadder tonight since Tom “slipped the surly bonds of earth…” A first-class raconteur, gifted pastor and respected colleague, Tom was a unique human being. He brought joy wherever he went and his long tenure in pastorates cements his legacy as a beloved pastor and church leader. A parishioner gave Tom an objet d’art made of metal which spelled “glory.” It brought a smile to all who saw it because it mimicked Tom’s favorite expression: “GLORY!” When a visitor to his office attempted to lift it, they were surprise at how heavy it was and would be met with a smile from Tom and a reminder of “the heavy weight of glory.” When Earl Grey died, his son, Lord Grey said of his father, “He lit fires in so many cold rooms.” So did Tom. Thank you, fellow-Volvo lover, devoted husband and father, faithful Christian. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for trusting your servant Tom with such a heavy weight of glory, and for helping him to carry it so well.

  4. A truly faithful man who touched many lives with his kindness. He will be fondly remembered by many indeed.

  5. Lawrence and I loved Tom. His message at John Wesley UMC 2025 Homecoming was”” “God is love!” We are so blessed to have had him as our pastor.

  6. Sandy and I wish to extend our deepest condolences to classmate Peggy and all the family in the loss of her husband who made the world around him a better place for many. Rest in peace Rev Tom.

  7. I served John Wesley UMC-Tallahassee from 2010 -2016. Even decades after Pastor Tom Farmer's tenure in same church, his impact was still clearly felt. Persons who gave their life to Christ during his ministry were still there and proud to claim him as their spiritual father. HIs evangelical vision was still inspiring many. Tom was a great influence on me as his example and advice were always grounded in the gospel of Jesus Christ, whom he served so faithfully. May God send us more persons like him today. He will be greatly missed. Prayers for Peggy and all family members.

  8. Tom Farmer and my sister Peggy formed a union founded in love of each other, love of God Almighty, their girls and all people. His spirit will be with us each until we journey to where he dwells now!

  9. A personal note to Dr. Farmer, remember when you came to our local hospital in Clearwater to prayfor my deceased husband Charlie when he was going to have a six o’clock surgery.  We both were so happy to see you.  We know you were so busy but not to busy not take time for us.   Many times after you came for prayer.
A wonder spiritual man Dr. Farmer was.
We shall meet you when my time Jesus calls me home.  Charlie has met him now.
I am 961/2 now, waiting for Jesus to call me.

  15. Prayers for the family and thousands of friends. 🙏🙏🙏🙏He was a high school classmate so many years and lived a strong good life serving the Lord.

  16. Peggy,
We hope you and your family can feel the love being sent to you from all the people whose lives you and Tom have touched over the years. May God be with you.

  17. Dr Tom Farmer was a Very Special Person. A true man of God.
I was blest to have him in my life. I have many treasured memories and will always remember him.
Rest in God’s Loving Care dear
    Dr Farmer.
To Peggy and her family. I pray you feel the Strength and Comfort of Gods Love to ease your sorrow.

  18. Dr. Farmer was my childhood pastor at St.Paul UMC. I have many fond memories and he will be remembered as an incredible man of God who touched the lives of many including my own and my family. He ministered to my mom and family during her cancer journey and was there to pray her into Jesus arms as she took her last breath her on earth. I will never forget the impact that had on my life. Blessings to his family during this time.

  19. No one has influenced my spiritual life greater than Tom Farmer. Thank you, God, for allowing me to be in a church where Your name was lifted up in the bold, genuine way that was Tom's gift.

  20. Dr. Farmer's love of God and God's people has touched and helped transform so many lives, mine included. The Gold Nuggets he shared with us are still remembered today. I don't doubt for one minute that when he stepped into paradise he let out a shout "Glory to God" that could be heard throughout all of Heaven. Our hearts break at the thought of not hearing his voice this side of Heaven but we will get to worship with him again in paradise. Sending love and hugs to the Farmer Family; we all grieve with you.

  21. Tom and I shared the same first name and he has been my best friend for over 30 years. He and Peggy helped me through some tough times with the passing of my father and my wife Boots. He led my father to Christ in my living room in Clearwater . We laughed together and cried together and finally we celebrated with my Dad and Boots going  to be with Jesus. So I must say it is very difficult to let Tom go to be with the Lord but I know we will all be together some day. (West Gate) He may not look the same but that voice and laugh I would recognize anywhere. So my friend go forward and pave the way for the rest of us and know you left this earth a better place for us all. I love you Tom and I will be here to care for Peggy, the girls and their families

  22. Dr. Tom led me to a deeper faith for which I will be forever grateful.  He was always thinking of others and was a strong voice for Jesus.  Dr. Tom was a fearless and dynamic pastor, teacher, mentor and counselor.  He will be missed!  Prayers and heartfelt sympathy to Peggy, Paige, Ashby and Brooke.

  23. Tom Farmer is missed by all who were blessed to know him. I can say that without fear of contradiction. He changed me and brought me closer to God. My deepest condolences to Peggy and their girls.

  24. Dr. Tom will be sorely missed on this earth. I can hear him shout GLORY! I also hear the applause of the angels. Many blessings are prayed for the entire Farmer family. Thoughts of Dr. Tom puts a smile on my face.

  25. I knew Tom and Peggy from their time at John Wesley. Tom didn’t just stand in the pulpit and pray. He walked around the sanctuary. He would randomly put his hand on your shoulder. I always seemed to get a pat when I mistook needed it. Tom, you will be missed

  26. Peggy,
Just received word about Tom meeting Jesus. face to face. Certainly he was greeted with open Loving arms with the words, "well done my good and faithful servant" No doubt he shouted Glory! This does not reduce the sting for those of us yet to be called home, however we have the blessed assurance that we will see him again.
You are consistently in our prayers and ask that you find comfort, strength and the peace that surpasses understanding during this most difficult of seasons. NO person had a greater impact on my walk and life than Tom. Please give our love and condolences to your daughters and the family. We love you all. Jim, Jan, Joshua, and Jordan Hale

  27. What a great man! He came to St. Paul UMC as our pastor and was such a great preacher, leader, and friend to all. I especially remember the early morning Bible Studies I attended with my kids and father. He always had to have his "holy water" (coffee) before we began. And I remember how, when I made plans to attend seminary to enter the ministry he steered us to Asbury Seminary in Wilmore KY where we still live. He said "You must go to Asbury as the others are so liberal." He was such an encouragement to so many — and always with a smile on his face. I can still hear him yelling, "Glory!" at the top of his voice. Rest peacefully, dear friend, until the day of resurrection when we will see you once again. We'll just following the loud "Glory" and wil know right where you are! … Bob & Jill Evely
