Ruben Lopez Marrero

Ruben Lopez Marrero, beloved husband, father and grandfather, peacefully passed away on August 26, 2025. He was 73 years old.

Born on July 2, 1952, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Ruben eventually settled in North Central Florida where he built a life filled with love, joy and countless cherished memories. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years. Terry Lopez; his son Ruben S. Lopez (Traci); and his grandsons, Gibson and Reed. His family and friends were his greatest source of happiness.

Ruben leaves behind his sisters Gloria and Iris (Pablo), his in-laws; Joe (Hilda), Jim, Patty, Billy Ray (Melinda) and Penny Jo as well as numerous nieces and nephews and lifelong friend Leeann Fleming and children April (Mark and Kayden) and David (Tania, Ethan and Isabel).

Ruben is preceded in death by his parents, Radames Lopez and Iva Marrero, his brother Roberto “Tito” Lopez, his father-in-law, William Morgan, mother-in-law Geraldine Morgan, his brothers-in-law Gerry Morgan, Ronald Morgan and Robert Morgan and his lifelong best friend Michael Fleming.

Ruben served as a Yeoman in the United States Coast Guard for 20 years and after his retirement, he went on to work at the University of Florida, Financial Affairs, retiring after 20 years of service. Beyond his professional endeavors, he enjoyed listening to music and working on his 1995 Cadillac with his son.

A private cremation through Crevasse’s has taken place to honor Ruben’s wishes, with a memorial service to be announced later. In place of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Haven - E.T. York Hospice Care Center - Gainesville, FL.
