Elmer Floyd Klein Jr.

E. F. (Bud) Klein, Jr, 84, of Gainesville, passed away peacefully on September 26 after an extended illness. Bud was born in Maryville, MO., to Susanna and Elmer Klein Sr. on December 31, 1940.

Bud received a degree in medicine from the University of Missouri in 1965. His hospital training included posts in Naval hospitals in Maryland and California. Bud’s professional appointments spanned 41 years and included serving as director for the UF College of Medicine Intensive Care Unit, Chief of Anesthesia at Richland Memorial Hospital, affiliated with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and Chairman of the Anesthesiology Department at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Bud was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Phi Delta Theta, Alpha Omega Alpha, the American Society of Anesthesiology and was a Fellow of the Society of Critical Care Medicine.

In Bud’s youth, he was on his high school football team, played the trumpet in the band and with a small local band made up of friends as well as lettered in tennis in college at the University of Missouri. Throughout his adult life, Bud enjoyed hobbies of golf, tennis, racquetball, and skiing. He was an avid college sports fan with loyalties to the UF Gators and Mizzou Tigers. Bud also had a soft spot for the numerous dogs and cats he owned throughout his life.

Bud is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Beth Klein of Gainesville; son Mike (Sonia) Klein of Gainesville; and son Eddie (Kimmy) Klein of Kalispell, Montana; and four grandchildren, Jared, Jackson, Jasmine and Adam, and his loyal dog, Samson.

A private family memorial service will take place in the future. The family welcomes memorial donations to The Foundation of Community Hospice & Palliative Care at 4011 NW 43rd St, Suite B, Gainesville, FL 32606.
