Caroline Howe Sheppard, age 70, of Ponte Vedra, Florida, passed away peacefully at the Community Hospice within the Baptist South Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, October 3rd, 2025. She was born August 25th, 1955, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, to V. John & Jane (Holt) Manikoff.
Lin received her undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology (With High Distinction) from The University of Michigan, Dearborn Campus, on December 22nd, 1977. Lin worked for Downriver Guidance Center after graduation followed by Allen Park Public Schools as a school social worker. Lin completed her education at U of M Dearborn, on May 2nd. 1980 by obtaining her master’s degree in social work.
While attending college, Lin met and married David R. Sheppard, her husband of 49 years. Lin and Dave loved boating, playing tennis and golf. Most of all, Lin’s love was that of horseback riding. Lin’s family had a cottage on Mackinac Island, Michigan, where cars and motorized traffic were not permitted, which Dave & Lin visited frequently, eventually building their own house and barn.
Lin went on to become an author of children’s therapy books that included: Brave Bart, Brave Bart and the Bully, Shadow Moves, Coco and Kitty, Brave Bart Returns. In addition, Lin penned an adult book about long distance care giving, titled “When Family Calls”.
Lin is survived by her husband David Sheppard, sister Olga Hard, sister-in-law Karen L. Sheppard, aunt Fran Holt, cousins Sara Kelsey, Bill Kelsey Rick & Kathy Holt, Nephews Matt & Misti Hard, Kit & Rose Hard and Ray & Jen Harless.
Lin was preceded in death by her brother V. John Manikoff Jr, her parents V. John & Jane Manikoff, aunt Olga Challen, uncles Fred Challen, Fred Holt, brother in-law Chris Hard and cousin Mark Holt. A graveside service to include family only, will be held later this Summer.
Love of my life for 49 years of marriage. I thought we had more time.
