Nancy Lee Beckwith, age 77, of St. Augustine, Florida, passed away peacefully from complications of cancer while surrounded by family at the Bailey Family Center for Caring, Community Hospice.
Born the eldest child on November 7, 1947, in Burlington, Iowa, to Shirley and Kenny Logan, Nancy’s life was filled with devotion to family and service. After graduating from Western Illinois University, she married Jim Beckwith on August 12, 1969. Together, they built a full life, moving with Jim’s career at Mobil Oil through Chicago, Connecticut, the Philadelphia suburbs, and Northern Virginia, where she attended graduate school at George Mason University. After Jim’s untimely death in 1995, she settled in St. Augustine, where her oldest daughter had just finished college.
Nancy devoted many years to raising her three children while volunteering extensively at her church and in her children’s activities. When her youngest child graduated from school, Nancy began a second career as a social worker, helping adults with disabilities. Her clients loved her for her compassion and practicality. She was known by all for her scratch-made desserts, her love of books and reading, and her generous heart.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Jim, and her brother Scott Logan. She is survived by her children and grandchildren: Monica Hicks (husband Chad) of St. Augustine and their sons Mason and Jude; Ryan Beckwith (wife Jessica Leigh) of Oxford, England, and their son Octavian; and Abigail (Abbey) Beckwith (husband Josh Niederriter) of St. Augustine and their children Eliza and Theodore (Teddy). She is also survived by her siblings Marion Logan of Ponte Vedra, FL; Caroline Warren of Myrtle Beach, SC; Nick Logan of Burlington, IA; and Steve Logan of Burlington, IA; as well as many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date in St. Augustine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Nancy’s memory to the Foundation of Community Hospice & Palliative Care, the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, or to an organization of your choice that helps those with disabilities.
Nancy’s family and friends will forever remember her strength, generosity, and hospitality. She will be greatly missed.
Sweet Monica your mother was an inspiration for many. Her education, vocation and professional life of giving is witnessed in you. May your memories of her love comfort you. Blessings
