Rick "Ric" J. Dolan

January 5, 1950 ~ October 16, 2025

Born in: Chelsea, MA
Resided in: Jacksonville, FL

We remember Rick “Ric” J. Dolan of Jacksonville, FL, whose spirit departed from us on October 16th, 2025 at the age of 75 after a long and very courageous battle with cancer. Ric was born to John J. Dolan and Dolores Y. (Driggers) Dolan on January 5th, 1950 at Chelsea Naval Hospital, Chelsea, MA.

Being born into a Navy family, it was not hard to see why Ric was very accustomed to moving frequently and adapted easily to many different regions and people. While a senior in high school in Puerto Rico (PR) the family was transferred-again. This time to San Diego where Ric finished his secondary education and planned to attend college; however, the US Army had other plans as explained on Ric’s Draft Notice. Wisely, Ric chose another path and enlisted in the US Navy on December 6th, 1968 and proudly served our country for six years which included two tours of duty in Vietnam. His exemplary military service was acknowledged and honored with both a Silver and a Bronze Star as well as three other medals. Ric’s military expertise in communications caught the eye of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) but Ric declined their offer of a position choosing instead to pursue his college education graduating from Pittsburgh University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, a field where his career path always led, including banking, the NYSE, and even a stint as an Associate Professor at Florida State College at Jacksonville (FSCJ) where he taught Banking Investment and Law in the late 1980’s.

Ric wrestled in high school in PR and was invited to the Pan Am Games but due to his US nationality a native Puerto Rican was chosen instead and Ric remained on the eligible list as an alternate. Ric liked baseball and as a pre-teen he declared he would break Mickey Mantle’s home run record. As an adult Ric greatly enjoyed playing and watching golf and would attend the PGA Tournaments whenever possible. He was not much on frills and organized social clubs but he had no trouble holding his own at a game of poker. He was an expert crossword puzzle solver and he liked to entertain family and guests by grilling dinner and serving their favorite cocktails. For relaxation Ric would walk a beach at low tide and look for sharks teeth and shells.

Ric is survived by his constant and loving companion of almost twenty years, Terri DeBerry; two sons Ryan J. (Hannah) and Aaron J.; one sister Barbara (Dolan) Stillman; two grandchildren Noah and Ella and a niece Jennifer Ramey (Gene).

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Vietnam Veterans of America or a charity of your choice would be appreciated (click here).

Crevasse’s Simple Cremation is honored to serve the Dolan family.
