Robert Emmett Mott Sr

June 28, 1955 ~ November 20, 2025

Born in: Schenectady, NY
Resided in: Saint Augustine, FL

Robert E. Mott Sr. passed away on November 20, 2025 after a battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family. Bob was born in Schenectady, NY to the late Robert S. And Margaret A. Mott. He did a lot of growing up in northeastern Pennsylvania surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins. Especially Cindy, his childhood accomplice in terrorizing their siblings!

Moving to Endicott, NY in eighth grade, he met lifelong friends John Butler and later Kevin McDonald, a.k.a. “The Electro Guys.” Bob attended several colleges including Broome Community College and ultimately received his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.

Bob met the love of his life, Susan A. Cerniglia, by chance on a plane, where they discovered they both worked for the same company, IBM. Susan was moving from Poughkeepsie to the Charlotte location where Bob worked. They quickly realized they were meant to be. They married soon after, and welcomed their four wonderful children into the world: Bobby, Katie, Billy, and Joey. They lived a happy life in Charlotte until Bob’s work in sales and sales management brought them to Jacksonville, FL in 2004. Bob had a long career with great coworkers who admired him until his retirement in 2021.

Outside of family, Bob’s greatest passion in life was music. He played guitar, harmonica, ukulele, and piano and sang from an early age. There was never a family gathering at which the guitar didn’t come out and the whole neighborhood was serenaded with “Sweet Caroline,” “Zombie,” “Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road,” and “Oh Nimbus” to name a few. He influenced many in the next generation to play, especially nephews Chris Bleakley and Danny Parker. After Susan passed away after her own battle with cancer in 2021, Bob moved to St. Augustine and took the open mic circuit by storm. He made many amazing friends and was constantly telling his children about all of the talented musical acts they performed. He also enjoyed good food (especially pudding pops, Dots, and black licorice), going for ‘trudges’, and reading voraciously.

Bob was predeceased by both parents; his beloved wife Susan; sister-in-law Wanda Baker; and younger sister, Peggy Parker. He is survived by his beloved children, Robert E. Mott Jr., Katherine M. Wagner (Kurt), William P. Mott, and Joseph M. Mott; his older sister Robin A. Mott; his nephew Daniel T. Parker (Kat, Robin, Tommy Sophie); cousin Debbi Bleakley (Tim); nephew and niece Chris Bleakley (Laurel) and Ali Trabanino (Sebastian, Emma, Lucas); and many other loving cousins, nieces, and nephews. Many good friends made over the years will feel his loss as well.
