Rhonda Jean Merritt, born August 6, 1957, in Sidney, Montana, and revered as a pillar of strength, bravery, and unyielding positivity, left her earthly body on Friday, November 29, 2025, at 2:58 AM upon her Father’s call. After 68 valiant years on earth, she entered God’s glorious kingdom and claimed her eternal home. A longtime resident of Jacksonville, Florida, she will be remembered for the joy she brought into every room and the kindness she carried with her everywhere she went.
Rhonda will be lovingly remembered by her beloved children, Damien and Christopher; her cherished cat, Lucky; her sisters, Nicole Flemming (and her husband, Mark Penstra) and Bernadette Miller; her brother, Vaughn Flemming; and her former husband and longtime friend, Edwin Merritt. She is joined in rest by her parents, Alice and Daniel Flemming, along with many other loved ones, including the pets who brought her joy throughout her life. With a family made up of both blood ties and bonds formed from the heart, Rhonda’s reach was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.
Among Rhonda’s greatest accomplishments was raising her two boys, whom she held as her pride and joy. She faithfully served in the United States Army and later devoted many years to her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Through every challenge life presented, Rhonda’s compassion never wavered. She continued to support her family and extend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Her legacy is one of unwavering kindness and generosity. She always found ways to support others, and her care for her loved ones never diminished. Her life was a beautiful testament to resilience and strength.
The family offers special thanks to Edwin for his steady devotion and care throughout Rhonda’s illness. His presence, support, and encouragement brought her great comfort.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital, Gentiva Hospice, and Crevasse’s Simple Cremations for their compassionate care. They deeply appreciate everyone’s kindness, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
“Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9
